Modified Demand and Wishlist

Identifying the Need:

What do they want?

- A way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions so we can slow the rate of global warming.

Where do they want it?

- On personal vehicles to reduce climate effects from transportation. As well as any kind of
gasoline powered vehicle like public transportation.

When do they want it?

- As soon as possible due to the increasing effects of global warming. Many people are
working hard on finding alternatives or solutions to power the world without hurting it.

What price are they willing to pay?

- We explicitly design our product to be cost effective and cheap, as the issue of carbon
emissions is mostly affecting developing countries. Thus, the price has to be affordable
for all kinds of people around the world.

How big is the market?

- Personal vehicles are used worldwide but as aforementioned the greatest market will be
in poorer countries. From our survey results, almost all of the people use gasoline
powered cars as their main way of transportation. This may vary from town to town but it
is a basis for our project.

Is anyone else supplying this?

- There are a number of individual products that filter solid toxins from gasoline powered
automobiles, however, none include a muffler connection or are cheap enough to be
exported. Most of the particle filters are for diesel powered vehicles because they can
emit very toxic compounds. There are little to no filters for everyday vehicles that can
filter out carbon dioxide.

What are financial and legal risks?

- Legally, it is possible that depending on how we design the product we could be sued for
copyright infringement. Financially, the largest hurdle would be to overcome export
costs.
Defining the Problem:

- Need: More efficient carbon capture methods to reduce the amount of CO2 in the
atmosphere.

- Problem definition: Climate change is an issue that requires a change in the individual
behaviour of people to truly be combatted.

- Improved problem definition: Currently, the issue of carbon emissions are fairly mild in
developed countries, like the US and Europe, however, the greatest impact affects
developing countries. Truthfully, the sector that must be changed to truly make the
largest impact is the development of energy. However, as previously mentioned these
countries do not have the current resources to convert to cleaner energies and would
require massive amounts of outside investment and individual changes to their
governmental structures. Given this, it would not be pertinent of us to simply give up. Our
product would be a temporary barrier to slow global warming and its effects. Rather, we
wish to design a cheap exhaust pipe attachment, while not solving the larger issue,
would do a great amount of good nonetheless.
