KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT IN NURSING
The course focuses on the philosophical and theoretical underpinnings as basis for
advanced nursing science and practice through rigorous research, evidence-based
education, and dynamic leadership. Philosophical approaches, systems theory and
organizational science provide the framework for problem analysis, health promotion
and prevention strategies as students learn the role of advanced practice in the
coordination of care across systems. Also, the students will be guided and mentored
in the design, conduct, and report of research studies related to nursing and other
clinical practice for policy development for better health outcomes. The student is
expected to develop and present a nursing model or a theory.
The student shall be able to:
1. Create strategies for utilizing the methods in assessing learning needs and
utilizing theories, principles and models in educating self and significant
others;
2. Apply innovations of educational planning by initially understanding and
evaluating the learning needs of the students as appropriate style is introduce
so students gain knowledge through critical thinking;
3. Integrate contextual awareness to gain tacit and explicit knowledge for
personal and professional development;
4. Illustrate designs for effective learning pathways that would contribute for
developing nurses as they engage in active learning process;
5. Identify evidenced-based practice and nursing informatics that would help
strategize managing and incorporating technology in the community.
6. Create strategies for concept and theory development related to culturally informed
research science.
7. Formulate a model/theory applied to nursing.

Teaching Strategies
Teaching strategies include power point presentation, journal readings, written
assignments, discussions, critiques, journal readings and term paper.
Assignments/Projects Turn in Process
1. All assignments are due on the due date and times as instructed. Assignments
received after the due date and time will deducted with points.
2. Assignments will not be accepted late without advance notification, discussion
and approval from the instructor. Assignments submitted late without instructor
prior approval will receive zero points or deducted points.
3. Grades for accepted late work may be lowered at the instructor’s discretion.
4. Please make sure you edit all assignments for punctuation, grammar, syntax and
APA style before turning in. Students should turn in work for which they are proud.
Please avoid plagiarism.
4. Prepare assignments using Microsoft word with the following convention: Last

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Nursing Education. One of the first MAN Graduate of the OLFU College of Nursing during the BSN
level 1 accreditation in 1997. Conferred the degree PhD in Educational Management in 2005 with High
Distinction. Served as Coordinator of the Graduate School for years and helped in the accreditation of
the 10 programs; lead person for the Level IV and Level III accreditation including the BSN level 4
accreditation and was in charge of the International Affairs. Served as consultant of two Colleges of
Nursing during the nursing peak season in the early 2000. An adviser of many Master’s degree graduate
and Doctoral graduates of the OLFU Graduate School and take pride of producing these graduates who
now occupying positions in international and local institutions such as Chief Nurse, Director/Chief
Nurses of private and government hospital, deans among others. Before retirement, served as faculty and
reviewer in the NLEX in OLFU campuses.
Nursing Practice. Rose from ranks and served as Staff Nurse (ER and ICU), Supervisor and Chief
Nurse. One of the first ICU nurse of FUMC and has attended post graduate courses in ICU (3rd Batch in
the Philippine Heart Center). Served as private nurse of the FUMC/OLFU administrators. Attended
Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Training offered by the PNA (3rd batch) which he now shares in
the Graduate School.
Nursing Organization. Elected as Member of the Board of Governors of the Philippine Nurses
Association, Inc. from 2012 – 2015 for 2 terms, the only accredited professional nursing organization in
the Philippines and was unopposed in 2014 for another 2 years. As Member of the Board, participated in
the issues elevating the socio-economic condition in the practice of nursing. Before serving the National
Office, served as President of PNA CAMANAVA Zone 2 Chapter in 1997-1998 and was instrumental
in Zone 2’s receiving 2 consecutive years at the same time awarded the first ever award given to Zone 2
President, Most Valuable PNA Zone 2 President. Other key positions held, served as Member of the
House of Delegate of the PNA, the legislative arm of the organization. Chairman of the PNA Internal
Affairs for four (4) years with 5 committees and a Member of the Committee on Unionism, PNA.
Was once appointed as member of the Professional Regulation Commission Monitoring Team of the
Implementation of the Nursing Core Competency in 2013. One the member of the legislative body
during the repeal of the 1991 Philippine Nursing Law (RA 7164) now RA 9173.
