STEPS ON HOW TO FORMULATE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS FOR QUALITATIVE RESEARCH

In formulating interview questions, you need to look back at your title, your central phenomenon and
your SOP so that you will be reminded of what you want to know, discover and/or understand about
your topic.

For each SOP/subquestion, you formulate two to three (or up to five, especially in semi-structured and
in-depth interviews) interview questions. Example, if your title is “Unearthing the Roots of Picking STEM:
Motivations for taking up STEM” where your aim is to understand what makes STEM students chose this
strand when usually most students dread mathematics, and the following are your SOPs/subquestions
(It would help a lot later if you identify the type of question your SOP falls under):

what are the compelling reasons for taking up STEM? (Descriptive)

What is the meaning of taking up STEM in senior high school? (Interpretive)

What would have made you change your mind in taking up STEM? (Process-oriented)

Therefore you will have to make questions that will help you arrive at the answers to your
SOP/subquestions!!!

For SOP #1 (what are the compelling reasons for taking up STEM), your interview questions could be

kanilang hanapbuhay o ginagawa? (Tell me about yourself: your personal information, where do you
live, who your parents are and what do they do?)

(What
were your considerations in choosing STEM in senior high school?

For SOP #2 (What is the meaning of taking up STEM in senior high school?):

(What is in the STEM strand that made you decide to enroll in this strand?)

(What do you think sets STEM apart from the other tracks or strand?)

2.c. (What do you think
would have happened if you took up another strand instead of STEM?)
SOP #3: (What will have made you change your mind in taking up STEM?)

senior high school? (Had it not cross your mind to consider taking up other track or strand before you
enrolled in STEM?)

(What do you think are the good things
in that strand/track that could have convinced you to take it up instead of STEM?)

(How did you finally make up your mind to finally take up STEM in senior high school?)

(If
given the chance to go back on that day that you were about to decide what to take up in senior high,
given that you already have the experience of being a student in STEM, would you still take up STEM?
Why or why not?) school, what would have you

high school? (What is the process that led you to choosing STEM for senior high school?)

Have your interview questions checked by your adviser (for validation). Revise when necessary.

Once finalized, prepare your interview schedule (that is, you prepare the list of approved interview
questions that you will ask from your interviewees

Heyo, goiz! Ito yung mga questions natin sa Statement of the Problem na gagawan ng interview
questions:

1. What are the respondents’ own strategies for cheating?

2. How do the respondents feel towards cheating?

3. What are the interventions that the respondents tried to resist cheating?

4. What are the evident changes after the respondents’ intervention?
