The aim of the project is the demonstration of

cleaning system has been designed based on
scrubbing using an organic solvent, which re-
moves the tar from the gas produced coming
from the gasifier. Once the gas is cleaned up, it
can be efficiently burned in a motor engine free
of condensing and plugging. A demonstration
plant has been constructed coupled to a semi-
commercial fluidised bed gasifier owned by
INERCO. A slipstream is taken from that system
and come to the new gas cleaning section where
the behavior of the new gas cleaning system is
tested under real on-line operating conditions.

This proyect, performed under the requirement of
Telvent, is aimed to design a new current meas-
urement system composed of magnetic field
sensors. This way, it is not needed a physical
contact with high voltage elements. For the first
time the design will be applied to a three-phase
busbar in an open-air substation, although later
on it will be applied to other configurations like
buried cable or switchgear busbars.
Nowadays we are developying the system, and
performing the error analysis and sensor calibra-
tion, finishing the project next year.

Because of the increasing use of glass facades in


modern buildings and the ever more strict regu-
lations for reducing CO2 emissions, a great de-
mand for glazed facade systems with high ener-
gy efficiency is expected. The system developed
reduces heat loss from buildings, using part of
the energy from air blown out for health reasons.
Amongst its main characteristics is that of adapt-
ing to the operating conditions of the building
and to the external requirements (temperature
and solar radiation) by the use of domotics. An
example of this is the intelligent control of shad-
ing devices that simultaneously obtain appropri-
ate natural lighting conditions and control the
solar benefit differentiating between winter and
summer.
AICIA has also developed simulation models of
the device which have been validated with tests
by an independent laboratory. This has allowed
for the evaluation of potential energy saving in
Spain and similar climates. Other members of the
project are DETEA and EXTRUPERFIL.

cal point of view is to be found when consider-
ing the retrofitting of an existing pulverized coal
power plant incorporating CCS (Carbon Capture

To date an exhaustive laboratory screening plan

This project is carried out because of the two

The system known as BRAVA (self propelled var-

sets of wheels running on sliding bases which
can be displaced laterally, under controlled con-
ditions, on a non rotating axis body. The work
of the AICIA Elasticity and Material Resistance
Group consists of characterising the fatigue per-
formance of the BRAVA system and determining
potentially critical areas.

This report has evaluated the causes of the uniform corro-


sion and the presence of some stamps on the surfaces of
steel plates for naval applications. The study includes opti-
cal microscopy analysis, energy dispersion x-ray analisis by
scanning electron microscopy, quantification of the thick-
ness layer of Zn silicate shop-primer painting treatment.
Also, a size, morphology and composition analyses of the
particles found on the steel plates were performed. The re-
sults show that the thicknees of the Zn silicate painting is
critically heterogeneous and inferior to that recommended.
Furthermore, the particles found are of equivalent size and
composition to those used in the shotpeened process, in-
deed, some of the particles are covered by Zn silicate paint.

Within the restoration project for the Lion Foun-


tain in the Alhambra, AICIA is in charge of ac-
cessorizing the necessary operations for the
structural restoration of the Lion Fountain sculp-
tures. This includes evaluation structural dam-
ages in the sculptures and their possible causes,
separation of fragments, and design of joining
methods for restoration. A finite elements model
has been elaborated to analyse the mechanical
performance of the sculptures, studies and tests
have been carried out to define the mechani-
cal properties of marble and the most suitable
joint adhesive to be used. Once the most suit-
able type of adhesive has been chosen, the frag-
ments of the sculptures have been joined.

The Laboratory of Elasticity and Strength of


Materials (LERM) is in charge of the reception
and requalification tests of composite materials,
resins and paints used by SACESA. Reception
includes a selection of destructive tests in or-
der to guarantee that a batch of received mate-
rial meets the physicochemical and mechanical
characteristics established in its qualification and
used for aircraft element design and calculus. As
is known, composite materials have to be stored
in frigorific chambers and their properties decay
with time, that is, they are expirable materials.
Requalification is performed based on a selec-
tion of destructive tests and it is used to guaran-
tee that a batch of material meets the properties
established in its qualification, it being possible
to extend the expiry date of a batch.
Main tests used both in reception and requalifi-
cation are:
