Jamison (Mar-
tin Sheen) has
a wonderful wife, a
fine son and a beauti-
ful house far from
the stress and ugli-
ness of the.city.
But after his wife’s
death in a freak acci-

a break with the past.

More thriller than horror, The
Believers is a movie with a message.
For all its civilized veneer, the mes-
sage goes, New York City is really

Shaver — in a polished psycho-
thriller that includes a safe, arm-
chair tour of Spanish Harlem and a
course in what happens when a reli-
gion becomes a cult.
