Complex Engineering Problem

EE-314

Main circuit diagram of 3-electrodes potentiostat

We have connected a function generator which acts as input source a provides a voltage of 0-4V. the
voltage can be varied using the knobs on the function generator. The first task is to convert the voltage
from 0-4V to -10 to 10V then it passes through the op-amp and is connected to the counter electrode
which is short circuited with the reference electrode. The current comes out of the working electrode
and in order to convert the current to voltage we have used a current to voltage converter. We again
need to change the voltage range to 0-5V. We have also converted the output of counter electrode to
0-5V.
We have connected a resistance between counter electrode and working electrode and see the output
of the working electrode after voltage to current conversion which comes out to be a straight line
(shows ohmic behavior). For this purpose, we have given DC sweep of 0-4V. The result is shown below:

I-V curve of resistor using DC swept function

This is the circuit using DC sweep as input voltage source of 0-4V

We have connected a capacitor between counter electrode and working electrode and plot the I-V
graph after current to voltage conversion which comes out to be a loop (because charge gets stored in
capacitor). For this purpose, we have used a function generator as input voltage source of 0-4V because
capacitor acts as open circuit if we give DC sweep to it.

Value of current and voltage at working electrode

As the reference and counter electrode are tied together the value of current is usually very small.
