1.How resources are classified on the basis of Exhaustibility? Mention their features.
a. Renewable Resources:
The resources which can be renewed or reproduced by physical, chemical or mechanical processes are known
as renewable (or) replenishable resources.
They include solar and wind energy, water, forests and wildlife.
They are further divided into continuous or flow resources.
i. Non- Renewable resources:
These resources take millions of years in their formation
They include minerals and fossil fuels.
2. How resources are classified on the basis of origin?
a. Biotic Resources:
These are obtained from biosphere and have life such as human beings, flora and fauna, fisheries and
livestock.
b. Abiotic Resources:
All these things which are composed of non-living things such as rocks and metals.
3. Mention the steps involved in resource planning?
Identification and involved in resources across the regions of the country.
Evolving planning structure endowed with suitable technology and skill.
Matching the resources development plans with overall national development plans.
4. What are the causes of land degradation?
Deforestation
Over grazing
Mining
Quarrying contributed to land degradation.
5. What is soil erosion? State human and natural factors responsible for soil erosion?

Human factors: Deforestation, over grazing construction and mining etc
Natural factors: Wind, glaciers and water.

2. What steps can be taken to control soil erosion in the hilly areas?
(i) Contour ploughing:
Ploughing along the contour lines can decelerate the flow of water down the slopes.
(ii) Terrace farming:
Terrace cultivation restricts erosion western and central Himalayas have well developed.
(iii) Strip cropping:
Large fields can be divided into strips; strips of grass are left to grow between the crops.
