MRTP01 and MRTP03 AC PILOT WIRE PROTECTION RELAY PRODUCT SAFETY WARNING
Dear Customer,

We have your details on our records as a customer of Alstom Grid MRTPo1 and / or MRTP03relays. If you
have sold the relays on, or you are not the user, we politely request that you forward a copy of this notice
to the custodian of the relays or give us their contact details so that we can do so.

Alstom Grid has become aware of a safety concern with the above products during an internal assessment.
There is no evidence of this situation ever occurring with products in service. Alstom Grid s first priority is
always the safety and peace of mind of our customers.

Defect

During external fault conditions on adjacent power cables up to 5kV could be induced into the AC Pilot
wires being protected by the relay. In these circumstances only, a high potential could appear on the SET
potentiometer. In the unlikely event that the operator is adjusting the potentiometer at this time they
could be exposed to the risk of electric shock. This potentiometer is located behind the product front
cover and is not normally accessed once the relay has been commissioned.

Resolution Method

It is highly unlikely that the product will need to have the potentiometer reset following its calibration
during commissioning. Please affix the supplied label to the front of your commissioned products and
ensure your routine maintenance process is amended to request an upgraded plug-in relay chassis to
install if future adjustment is necessary. All existing wiring is left in place during this replacement. Refer to
attached installation guide. The replacement will be provided free of charge please contact Paul

Affected Models

This warning only applies to all MRTP01 and MRTP03 AC Pilot wire protection relays supplied since 8
August 1997. No other Alstom Grid products are affected by this notice.
