Soil Investigation for The Jakarta Fishing Port / Marketing Development

Project Phase IV Package III will be done by our sub-contractor : PT.

Pratama Widya ( company profile attached ).

1. Boring.

The purpose of this boring was to obtain the accurate information on the soil

condition beneath the surface regarding engineering its view point either

obtained from :

- visual description (rock and soil classification)

- in place test

- laboratory test to find out the index and engineering properties

The mentioned boring were carried out by using a rotary boring

machine with a hydraulic power machine system. The method of drilling is

continuos core drilling with Nx size : Diameter bore 73 mm

All of boring activities were recorded in daily report including the

following items ( See Geologic Drilling Log Attached ).

a. Groundwater Level Measurement

The Groundwater Level ( GWL ) Measurements were monitored first by dry

coring method then to be monitored everyday i.e. in morning before

starting the boring activity, during boring until 48 hours after the boring

activity at one point is finished.

b. Location of Boring

The boring locations were spread out over the whole project Site

following the owner guidance line.

c. Standard Penetration Test.

Standard test was known as Standard Penetration Test. The purpose of the

Standard Penetration Test was ( SPT ) is to obtain the relative density of

coarse soil fractions and consistency of fines soil fractions.

This is had been carried following the ASTM Standard, with the

following detailed specification :

Diameter of Boring : minimum 76 mm

Hammer weight : ± 63,5 kg

Falling distance of hammer : ± 76 cm (automatic hammer)

The test was done at every 2.0 m intervals up to the edge of each hole and at

any depth where subsoil change in character. The reading was recorded for

each 15 cm. Penetration for 3 x 15 cm (the first 15 cm was not used, only

to determine the condition of base boring already clean from mud)

d. Thin wall Sampling

The taking of thin Wall samples were meant to obtain the relatively original

soil samples (undisturbed samples) for laboratory test. The undisturbed

samples is taken for each different kind layer to obtain optimum data.

The samples were taken by using thin wall tube samples, passed to the

Desired soil depth by using hydraulic pressure from the boring machine.

To check the disturbances of samples points natural soil condition (to avoid

cutting) the pocket penetrometers were done directly when the sample arrive

at laboratory to know it’s consistency for cohesive soil.

2. Laboratory Test

The testing procedure followed the ASTM standard 1985, namely as follows :

Testing will be done at laboratory which belong to the contractor of Soil

Investigation. Joint visiting to the laboratory will be requested in other

transmittal.
