ANC GREATER JOHANNESBURG STATEMENT ON THE OUTCOMES OF THE REGIONAL EXECUTIVE


COMMITTEE FOUR DAYS VIRTUAL LEKGOTLA

The ANC Greater Johannesburg Regional Executive Committee (REC) concluded it's four days virtual Lekgotla
on Sunday, 21 February 2021, which was attended by the leagues, zones, and MKMVA under the theme: Unity,
Renewal, Reconstruction Towards a Decisive Victory in the Year of Mama Charlotte Maxeke, a pioneer of
our liberation and founding member of the Bantu Women’s League.
The virtual REC Lekgotla honoured those who lost their lives to the COVID-19 pandemic and extended gratitude
and support to all frontline workers faced with the difficult task of saving every life during this pandemic and
committed to supporting all families where the pandemic has struck. In remembrance of those who lost their lives,
the delegates wore black attire on the first day of the Lekgotla.
The REC noted the threat that disunity and discord in the leadership structures of the ANC could bring, and
committed to foster unity in the Region devoid of factionalism and patronage with the necessary revolutionary
discipline including membership declaration entrenched in the policy position of the ANC.

The Lekgotla resolved to commit to:


 Rooting out corruption at all levels of the ANC as well as exposing corruption from the private and public
sector organisations;
 Recommit to selfless service and to uphold the core values of the ANC, which as members we took and
committed to through the oath as members of the ANC;
 Recommit to upholding laws of the Republic as contained in the Constitution of the Republic;
 Committing to regaining the trust of the residents of Johannesburg through humble and proactive
response to service and implementation of the People's IDP towards the transformation of society and
positively impact the daily living experience of the citizens of Johannesburg;
 Continue to implementation of resolutions of the 54th ANC Conference as we chart the way forward;
 Committing to gear up zones and branches and winning the 2021 Local Government Elections decisively
with majority votes to guarantee the ANC's transformation agenda;
 Committing to a strict electoral screening process for candidates and ensuring the candidate meets
organisational ethical standards, morality, and understanding services required by our people;
 Implore the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and its enablers such as technology, innovative, and
artificial intelligence solutions geared towards economic regeneration during this COVID 19 pandemic.
COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of the 4IR of which Lekgotla committed as a key priority;
 Prioritisation and Expediting youth programs through strengthening the youth directorate in the City’ to
eradicating Unemployment and opening opportunities for Youth in business.
 Continue to build capacity, capability, and political growth in ANC branches to be part of the
implementation of the ANC programs and projects towards transforming the livelihoods of our people.
The REC Lekgotla also reaffirmed its position and commitment to the eradication of Gender-Based Violence and
femicide that is threatening to destroy our societies, affecting the women-folk who continue to bear the brunt of
inequality, unemployment, and poverty.
To this end, the Lekgotla directed its deployees to accelerate service delivery in the City of Johannesburg and to
ensures implementation of consequence management to those delaying service delivery and found violating the
prescripts of the law.
