I appreciate you taking the time to contact me. We are very pleased to hear that you will be able to
come to our college concert on 6th July!
Firstly, the concert is dedicated to the Statehood Day of Lithuania. We will commemorate the
coronation in 1253 of Mindaugas as the only King of Lithuania. However, during the concert,
representatives from Lithuania’s different ethnographic regions will show the unique expressions of
their singing and dancing customs. There will be 19 th -20th - century Lithuanian folk and classical
music.
Immediately following the concert, we will sing the national anthem of Lithuania and after that, we will
host a 10-minute “Meet and Greet” where the participants can take pictures, talk to the artist or ask
some questions. Therefore, at this time you will have the best opportunity to take some photos.
Furthermore, you can interview singers from Lithuania’s different ethnographic regions. In my opinion,
you should interview the most popular group “VISI”. It was established in 1980 as a student folk
group, for 15 years the band has retained the same structure – 6 women and 6 men, which is the reason
for their excellent joint singing, playing, and mutual understanding. The core repertoire of “VISI”
consists of polyphonic songs sutartinės, calendar, and ceremonial songs. The band is famous for its
unique performance of the songs of Samogitia.
