Module: Commercial Cooking

NARRATIVE REPORT

We have encountered several struggles in making this module. But every part of it is
worth to be remembered, as we have gained significant learning from those as well. In crafting
this module, we aim to build a foundation of knowledge about the subject matter, by first putting
ourselves to the situation of the target learners, as if it were meant to be learned by us, as
students ourselves, who have experienced the same curriculum beforehand. This lead to a
collection of topics/lesson in the field of our specialization, that we would like to learn further,
as well as the necessary means to deliver it effectively, by taking consideration of the students'
varied learning styles, and learning comprehension.
In starting the process, we have brainstormed our ideas and suggestions by gathering and
conversing through 'group chat' in messenger. Planning the structure of the module, using the
online platform, has been inevitably difficult. Because not all members are present at the same
time, so oftentimes we have to wait for hours, days or even a week for them to respond to some
group decisions like, agreeing to a task that has been disseminated.
Due to the pandemic communication in group works is really affected, but like what they
say, “if there’s a will, there is a way” so, every member is always mentioned using the “@“ sign
in the group chat for them to be notified even if they muted the group chat. Member
participation is a must, because we’re making a Module not just a reference therefore, if a
member is not participating nor giving a message to the group chat, sorry to say but we must call
them out because every member in the group had put some effort in finishing this module.
We’ve chosen commercial cooking because it’s the best topic in our given situation. We
had 3 advantages, that’s why we chose commercial cooking. (1) We had basic background
because of Senior High School, High School, College and even in Real Life, we had basic
knowledge, experience and with the help of the power of internet we had searched more than
enough to complete the module. (2) One of our group member knows a TLE Teacher who can
evaluate and give us her opinion on how to develop our module. (3) Lastly, the Group had chosen
this subject because no one in our group hates food, in fact the fundamentals of commercial
cooking from the utensils, equipment’s, the structure of kitchen to the safety protocols are fun
to learn about and produce a product (not only food product but also a skill/ habit can be
produced from commercial cooking).
“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel” as Socrates described it.
Like that perception towards knowledge, we believe that education is a collaborative process
between the teacher and the student, with the teacher as the facilitator of learning rather than
just as a resource person. This is what we're aiming to instill in crafting our module. To not just
guide students towards a certain knowledge, but also for teachers as well to know their role
during the learning process.
