TEACHER OBSERVATION REPORT

Teacher Name: ROSA LEVIN Teacher ID: 1629119
School Year: 2017-2018 School Name/DBN: 01M034-P.S. 034 Franklin D. Roosevelt

CLASSROOM OBSERVATION (OBS):

In each observation, all components for which there is observed evidence must be rated. Each form must
contain lesson-specific evidence for each of the components observed during a classroom observation.

This observation was: (check one)

Formal Observation (full period) Informal Observation (15 minutes minimum)

Date of Observation: 12/18/2017 Time/Period: 9:10 am - 9:55 am/Period 2

Component Ratings

1a (obs): Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy 3- Effective

The teacher displays solid knowledge of the important concepts in the discipline
and
how
these
relate
to
one
another.

Evidence: The teacher modeled during the mini lesson by showing her plan and
checklist which students would be using while writing. The teacher rehearsed
aloud for students to see how she used the checklist.

1e (obs): Designing coherent instruction 3- Effective

Most of the learning activities are aligned with the instructional outcomes and
follow an organized progression suitable to groups of students. The learning
activities have reasonable time allocations; they represent significant cognitive
challenge, with some differentiation for different groups of students and varied use
of
instructional
groups.

Evidence: The lesson was aligned to the TC Unit of Study. There was
differentiation for a small group of students ( that worked with the ICT teacher. One
student, Ruben, had a different literary essay template.

2a: Creating an environment of respect and rapport 3- Effective

Students
exhibit
respect
for
the
teacher.

Evidence: The students respond to the teachers prompts and requests and
behave accordingly.

2d: Managing student behavior 3- Effective

Teacher response to student misbehavior is consistent, proportionate, and
respectful
to
students
and
is
effective.

Evidence:

3b: Using questioning and discussion techniques 3- Effective

Last Revised: 01/16/18 4:53:14 PM By aloukatos

The teacher creates a genuine discussion among students, providing adequate
time
for
students
to
respond
and
stepping
aside
when
doing
so
is
appropriate.

Evidence:The teacher asked students to turn and talk to discuss how they would
use the writing checklist. I observed Alyanna, Melissa and Jonalysse. Jonalysse
stated "You use it to make sure you have the things on the checklist." Melissa
stated " I use the checklist to make sure I'm prepared." The teacher asked
students to share how they would use the checklist after the turn and talk.

3c: Engaging students in learning 2- Developing

The
materials
and
resources
are
partially
aligned
to
the
lesson
objectives.

Evidence: Jesus, Ruben, Gabriel, Ruby, Esias and Abdiel were not consistently on
task. Jesus, Jose and Abdiel were not using the checklist and doing the task
incorrectly. Also there weren't enough materials for all students.

3d: Using assessment in instruction 2- Developing

Students
appear
to
be
only
partially
aware
of
the
assessment
criteria.

Evidence: Jesus, Abdiel and Jesus were not using the checklist correctly during
most of the independent work period. They were unaware until I spoke to them
and
redirected
them
to
the
checklist.

The teacher monitors understanding through a single method, or without eliciting

evidence
of
understanding
from
students.

Evidence:

While asking questions to the whole group the teacher didn't ask students to
explain their responses.

4e (obs): Growing and developing professionally 3- Effective

Teacher actively engages with colleagues and supervisors in professional
conversation
about
practice,
including
feedback
about
practice.

Evidence: The teacher participates in grade level and PLC meetings. The teacher
collaborates with Café Culture to promote a zero waste program in our school.

ASSESSMENT OF PREPARATION AND PROFESSIONALISM (P&P):

In this section of the form, evaluators should rate evidence for components 1a, 1e, and 4e that was
observed within fifteen (15) school days prior to the classroom observation as part of an assessment
of a teacher’s preparation and professionalism. Each form must contain teacher-specific evidence
for each of the components observed.

Component Ratings

1a (p&p): Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy N/A

1e (p&p): Designing coherent instruction N/A

4e (p&p): Growing and developing professionally N/A

Additional Evaluator Notes (please attach more pages, as necessary):

Commendation:

After
your
last
informal
observation,
I
asked
you
to
identify
the
students
in

the groups and specific differentiation that is planned for students on the lesson plan. It was evident during
this
lesson
that
you
implemented
this
feedback.

Please
include
time
allocations
on
lesson
plans.

Prior
feedback:

After
your
last
informal
observation
I
provided
the
following
feedback:

3C-Several
students
had
difficulty
staying
on
task
during
the
independent
work
period.
You
should
try

different seating arrangements for students and plan to conference with these students to give them on the
spot actionable feedback that can enable them to improve their work and stay on task. This wasn't evident
during
this
lesson
and
remains
a
next
step.

Additional
Next
Steps:

1- When asking questions to the whole group please ask students to explain their responses and ask other
students
to
build
on
their
responses.
This
will
increase
engagement
and
student
to
student
discussion.

2- Please consistently monitor the progress of all students. During this lesson several students were not
using the materials and doing the task incorrectly for the majority of the lesson. Keeping a pulse on students
while they're working will allow you to provide necessary feedback that will allow students to improve their
work and stay on task. You and your ICT teacher should be doing this to ensure that all students are
consistently monitored.
