Stacking test

Test method :

The container evenly loaded to R (R=tare + load) will be placed on 4 level pads and subjected to a vertical test load of 192,000kg

equally distributed over the 4 upper corner fittings, by means of four chocks and substantially of the same plane dimensions,

one over each top corner fittings, offset in the same direction by 25 mm (1”) lateral and 38 mm (1 1/2”) longitudinally.

Lifting test by top corner fittings

Test method :

The freight container under test is loaded to 2R, and is lifted by all four top corners in such a way that no significant
acceleration or deceleration forces are applied.

For series 1A, 1AA, 1B, 1BB, 1C and 1CC containers, the lifting forces shall be applied vertically.

For containers designated 1D, 1E and 1F, lifting shall be carried out by means of slings, the angle of each leg being at 30º
from the vertical.

The container shall be suspended for not less than 5 minutes and then lowered to the ground.

Lifting test by bottom corner fittings

Test method :

This test shall be carried out on 1A, 1AA, 1B, 1BB, 1C, 1CC and 1D containers. It shall be carried out on 1E and 1F containers,
if they are equipped with bottom corner fittings. The container under test shall be loaded to a total weight equivalent to 2R, and
carefully lifted from the four bottom corner fittings in such a way that no significant acceleration or deceleration forces are
applied. In each case, the line of action of the lifting forces shall be 38 mm (1 1/2 in) form the face of the corner fittings and
parallel to it.

The lifting forces will be applied at an angle of :

− 30º from the horizontal, for 1AA, 1A containers
− 37º from the horizontal, for 1BB, 1B containers
− 45º from the horizontal, for 1CC, 1C
− 60º from the horizontal, for 1D, 1E at 1F

The container shall be suspended for five minutes, then lowered to the ground.

Loading plan for tank-container lifting test

Mesurement of deflections as shown on the following page.

The lifting test can be carried out by attaching additional load weights in such a manner that the forces are conducted through
the tank supporting points.

It is not permitted to attached additional load weights to either the corner fittings or the frame. This test must be carried out
prior to mounting the tank’s outer casing ; It is not applicable in every case to multi-shell tanks.

Restraint test ( static test )

Test method

The freight container, loaded with a uniformity distributed load to a total weight of R, shall be secured to rigid anchor
points by the bottom securing points, at one end. A load equal to 2 x R (daN) shall be applied longitudinally to the
container, through the bottom securing points, at the other end, first in compression, and then in tension.
