MATERIALS PREPARATION

1. High Speed Handpiece

The hugh speedhandpiece is a precision device for removing dental tissue efficiently and quickly without
pressure, heat or vibration and cutting teeth without obstacles. However, this handpiece must be used
with care. Have a free running speed above 160,000 rpm and some have speed up to 500,000 rpm.

High speed techniques are generally preferred for cutting enamel and dentin. Penetration through
enamel and extension of the cavities outline are more efficient at high speed. Small diameter burs
should be used in the high speed handpiece. High speed generates considerable heat during cutting,
even with small diameter burs and should be used with water coolant and high efficiency evacuation Fig.

2. Abrasive bur: Diamond Bur

Does not cut teeth, but causes abrasion so it is efficient at high speed does not break easily. Very
efficient for email and porcelain various large particle sizes of diamon / gauze provide a rough to very
smooth surface for polish Urgently need water.

- Round Bur

Round bur, to remove caries. The head is spherical so it is used for initial entry into the tooth,
preparation of retentive holes or for removal of carious dentin.

- Flame burs

Flame burs are similar to bud burs but have a longer and more slender shape. Flame burs are available
in a wide range of diameters with either a standard length or long neck. They may be single or crosscut
with the blades on the head positioned closer or further apart, depending on whether they are intended
for finishing or cutting applications.
