8 Male Reproductive Organs

POST-TEST. Write your answers here.

1. What is the difference between masturbation and ejaculation?

Masturbation is an activity that involves touching yourself for sexual pleasure,
typically my touching / rubbing your genitals. Most of the time it leads to orgasm.
On the other hand, ejaculation is what men’s usually do wherein semen is
released out of the penis during the throbbing contractions of orgasm.

2. Explain the process of erection.

An erection starts in the brain and it happens when someone become aroused.
You become sexually stimulated by a thought or action. And in response to
physical or mental stimulation, the brain sends signals to trigger a hormonal
response that allows those same arteries to open completely. After that, the
arteries relax and open up to let more blood flow in; at the same time, the veins
close up. Once blood is in the penis, pressure traps it within the corpora
cavernosa. The penis expands and holds the erection. When the brain stops
sending signals that indicate sexual arousal, the hormonal response ends.
Arteries go back to their normal state and the penis returns to a flaccid state.

3. Is circumcision in male important? Why or why not?

Circumcision is defined as the surgical removal of the foreskin, the tissue
covering the head (glans) of the penis. The functions of the foreskin include
protecting the head of the penis and contributing to sexual sensations. While
recent research suggests that circumcision may bring some medical benefits,
some doctors believe these are too small to justify surgery. Most of the time,
circumcisions are performed just for family, cultural or religious reasons.
According to research, circumcision may bring medical benefits such as:

 a 10 times lower risk of a baby getting a urinary tract infection (UTI) in his
first year of life (remembering that only one per cent of babies are at risk
of a UTI, so 1,000 circumcisions are needed to prevent one UTI)
 no risk of infants and children getting infections under the foreskin
 easier genital hygiene
 much lower risk of getting cancer of the penis (although this is a very rare
condition and good genital hygiene also seems to reduce the risk. More
than 10,000 circumcisions are needed to prevent one case of penile
cancer)
 a possibly lower risk of men getting sexually transmissible infections
(STIs) than men who are not circumcised (although these studies have
not been scientifically confirmed and safe sex practices are far more
effective in preventing these infections).
