CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN TOURISM DOMAIN


Recently, in Vietnam has burgeoned, sprawling out of its frame and
becoming a prominent field in Vietnam’s economic development as the
increasing number of inbound as well as outbound tourists coming to Vietnam
has never been stopped to cease. Vietnam’s tourism sector is an important pillar
of the country’s economic growth, contributing approximately six percent to
Vietnam’s GDP. So far, Vietnam has attracted roughly 17 to 20 million tourists
in 2020. Consequently, there would definitely be a considerable need for labor
force working in this sector and this would certainly bring a plethora of job
opportunities. This report would discuss some career prospects in tourism and
propose some strategies to win a decent position in this field.
I. Career opportunies in tourism and hospitality industry:
With respect to the global perspective, the travel and tourism industry acts as
the largest contributor of foreign exchange and an enourmous number of
employees either directly or indirectly benefitted out of this industry.
Normally, employees have to work in lower position to gain knowledge and
experience. After this stage, they could be promoted and move to a higher
place if they are qualified enough. Since, experience is a key for growth in
this service industry.
Let’s witness some major job opportunities available in Tourism and
Hospitality industry:
1. Airlines: Groundstaff (Traffic Assistant, Counter Staff, Booking and
Reservation). Some major airlines in Vietnam include VASCO, Vietnam
Airlines, Jetstar Pacific Airlines, Vietjet Air, Hai Au Aviation, etc.
2. Hotels: Operations, Front Office (FO), Housekeeping, Food and
Beverage (F&B), Accounting, Maintenance, Security, Sales, Public
Relations. (Hanoi Gratitude Hotel, Hanoi Malo Boutique Hotel,
Intercontinental, Hai An Hotel, Lotus central Hotel, etc.)
3. Tourism Departments: Tour planners & Guides, Information assistants,
Reservations and Counter staffs, Sales and Marketing, Interpreters.
4. Transportation: Management and operation in all varieties of transport
(Rail, Cruise, Ferry, Bus, Coach, etc.)
5. Others: Travel Agent, Itinerary Planner, Foreign Exchange, Destination
Manager.
II. Things to remember when working in tourism and hospitality
industry:
When engaging in this industry, graduates will have a chance to continually
explore, practice and hone their pracmatic skills. In order to better meet the
demands of the tourism and hospitality industry, graduates also need to think
carefully before landing at an appropriate working environment or corporate
to gain decent experiences which will benefit them later on. From doing this,
they would be professionally trained and hence having a better grasp of the
tourism industry. As a result, you should always be willing to dig deeper in
the field to obtain more knowledge not only about tourism itself but also
English skills because these would provide you a competitive edge over
other candidates. Besides, you should expose yourself to essential skills such
as communication skills, interpersonal skills, time management skills,
customer-psychology-investigation skills, teamwork, working autonomy
skill and refine them afterwards through part-time job. One important thing
is not to be afraid to encounter and take up challenges because no one could
be experienced just right after graduating from university so they are
precious chances for you to perfect yourself. Moreover, attitude is of utmost
importance because it shows the recruiter that you are willing to face facts,
solve them yourself and apply yourself diligently to learning new things
which would prove you to be a potential candidate for the company.
