III. Course Objectives


At the end of this module, students will be able to

1. UNDERSTAND fundamental legal concepts, structures and functions of the


Vietnamese legal system, engage in synthesis and application of knowledge,
skills and responsibilities to new settings and problems.
2. DEVELOP critical thinking and problem solving skills.
3. PRESENT clear thinking about legal system.
4. EXAMINE the role and the nature of law as it affects the society.
5. EVALUATE some applications of the law in daily life.
6. PARTICIPATE effectively in a project group and apply positive team behaviors.
7. IMPROVE their English in a Legal context.

IV. Course Description

The module has two main components. The first section provides an overview of fundamental

legal concepts, structures and functions of the Vietnamese legal system, and then refers to the
characteristics of the state institutions and laws of Vietnam. The second part focuses on some
of the legal sectors such as Constitutional Law, Civil Code and Penal Code.

VII. Teaching Methods
Various teaching methods are expected to be applied in order to maximize the class
performance and for the student benefits, including: Lecture, Tutorial questions, Case
discussions. Considering the course content and the teaching methodology, students are
required to prepare the topics in advance (readings of textbooks, cases, questions), and to
actively participate in class discussions.
Learning activities:

1. Classroom Exchange and explain to the students the course’s basic
lectures modules.
Preparation: Students will be required to read the material at
home; lecturers will hold discussions on the modules.
2. Discussions Lecturers will present a short discussion question at the end of
each module; the groups are required to discuss in 5-10 minutes

and the group representatives will present the discussion
findings of his/her group. The other groups will utilize critical
thinking to discuss the findings (feedback).
6. Office hours Room 209, Bat. C, Hacinco; Thursday from 8h30 to 12h00.

IX. Assessment Methods

1. Participation 10% - Taking attendance 2 times/lesson.
(continuous Note: Missing 1 attendance counts as ½ lesson. Any student
assessment) missing 20% of the number of lessons will not be qualified
to take the final exam and has to take the course again
(except when said student has good reason)
Full attendance = 1 point.
Missing less than 10% lessons = 0.5 point.
Missing between 10 – 20% lessons = 0.25 point.
2. Mid-term 30% Written examination. The duration is 40 minutes.

3. Final exam 60% Final exam: Multiple choices. The duration of the test is 90
minutes. There are 100 questions. Right answers are 0.01
points each; grade is not deduced on wrong answers.

X. Other Requirements
Requirement during lecture:
Be on time
Complete the assigned readings before class meetings
Actively involved in the lecture, no personal affairs or discussions outside of course
materials are allowed during the lecture
No cell phones or personal computers are allowed during lecture
Limit the time stepping out of the classroom
Requirement during discussion/case study/group study
Actively participate in group discussion activities, contribute to the groups
Are allowed to use personal computers and cell phones to find information regarding
the course materials and the assignments
Other requirements
Plagiarism is prohibited under any circumstances. Students who commit plagiarism are
subjected to failure of the class and possible dismissal from the university.
Follow the procedures during the exams
Follow the policies by International School, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
