Operational Requirements of Cemented Carbide Roll Rings
Operational Requirements of Cemented Carbide Roll Rings
Cemented carbide roll ring is a kind of tool material which consists of tungsten carbide and
cobalt with high hardness and wear resistance. To take advantage of high wear resistance, long life
and high efficiency of cemented carbide roll rings during the high speed rolling , attention should
be paid as follows when purchasing and using cemented carbide roll rings:
Grades selection
P1
An overall under standing of the properties of cemented carbide grades is a basis for correctly selecting the
grades for roll rings used in the stands of rolling mills and it is required for an optimal combination of grades for
Steel-case mounting of roll ring and assembly should be strictly performed according to the precision required
by the design process .Proper fitting which is needed among the roll rings, roll mandrel for stands and conical
sleeves, which can not be over tight or loose . When it is in over tightness ,the roll rings are in tensile state and
more fluctuation of rolling force will make the roll rings break .Over looseness leads the roll rings, roll mandrel
and conical sleeve to slide relatively during rolling , which scratches conical sleeves and roll mandrel so that they
will crack. Before running the mill make a check if the roll ring meets the needs and roll ring, the assembling faces
of the conical sleeve and the roll mandrel need to be wiped up. Strictly forbid to knock at the roll rings with a
hammer or other hard materials when running the mill. Strictly forbid for the roll rings to impact each other during

Cooling is to decrease the effect of thermal corrosion, fatigue and stress on roll rings during the rolling of roll
rings, prevent roll rings from breakage, delay the diffusion of cracks and prolong the life of groove, which is very
important to the effect of cemented carbide roll rings. Reference cooling specifications are as follows:cooling water
pressure of (5-6)bar, water quantity of 18m3/stand/hour,last stand of 24m3/hour,water spraying should be radial direction
which is at an angle of (15-30 )with the spinning direction of roll ring, water can not be scattered or vapour ,it should be

Regrinding of Groove
0.2mm
During rolling microncracks of groove can not be avoided ,and need to be reground when they are at certain depth
(normally controlled at 0.2mm).Excess rolling leads the depth of microcracks extend rapidly and dangers of crushed
increase ,which should be prevented .Microcrack must be reground thorouhgly when regringing ,otherwise the nonreground
microcrack will make the microcrack during next rolling extend more rapidly and probably make the roll ring crack ,
regrinding quantity of normal rolling quantity nuder the process condition is conrtrolled as follws.
(9-10) (0.4-0.6)mm
(1-8) (0.7-1.2)mm
(1.2-2.0)mm
(0.2-0.4)mm
Micro cracks will occur after the rolling of the groove for same time and when the said cracks extend to (0.2-0.4)mm
the roll ring has to be reground. And the rolled material after each regrinding shall be normally as follows:
(3500-4000)
1-2 (1800-2500)
3-4 (1800-2500)
5-6 (1500-2000)
