COMPARATIVES / SUPERLATIVES / EQUAL & NOT EQUAL

1. COMPARATIVES→ ER + THAN
Adjectives ending in a:
- Single consonant or E →old_older / nice_nicer / quiet_quieter + THAN
- Single vowel followed by a single consonant →big_bigger / hot _hotter
(double consonant) → CVC
- Y →happy_happier / shy_ shier / foggy_ foggier / greasy_greasier /
lovely_lovelier→ IER
- More information: a bit fatter than / much fatter than

- *Long adjectives → MORE (+) or LESS (-) He is more intelligent than…,


She is less charming than….
*** Adjective does not change

2. SUPERLATIVES → THE + EST


- Old_ the oldest / nice_ the nicest / quiet_ the quietest
- Big_the biggest / hot_ the hottest
- Happy_ the happiest / shy_ the shiest / foggy_ the foggiest / greasy_ the
greasiest

- * Long adjectives → THE MOST _ (móust) (++) / The most interesting


→ THE LEAST _(liist) (-), The least boring

3. IRREGULAR ADJECTIVES
 Good → better than → the best
 Bad → worse → the worst
 Far → further (feurthzeur) → the furthest (feurthzest)

4. EQUAL & NOT EQUAL


- EQUAL = THE SAME → AS….AS (tan…como)
She is as nice as her sister (adjective doesn´t change)
- NOT EQUAL = NOT THE SAME → NOT AS….AS (tan…como)
She is not as nice as her sister
