Infrastructure Engineer
There is an ongoing program of work which is expanding and updating the capabilities to provide relevance within the
ministry. I am contracted to deliver on multiple projects and assist with daily maintenance with my knowledge and
experience in a variety of areas.

Key Competency Daily maintenance and fault resolution involving Microsoft AD, Microsoft SCCM, VMware
vSphere, Symantec Endpoint Protection and Citrix NetScaler Gateway.
Achievements  Replace the Citrix Branch Office Repeaters with security, network infrastructure and branch
servers at remote sites around the world. My responsibilities were to build and deploy WAN
optimizers and branch servers.
 Upgrade of VPN gateways to support Windows 10 and improve stability.

I was responsible for redesigning the NetScaler Application Delivery Controller and NetScaler Gateway to satisfy the
requirements of the network and security design. Additionally, I was appointed the subject matter expert and stake holder
for the solution. As the stake holder for application security and traffic I consulted to internal DevOps teams. I successfully
completed the redesign and implementation of a resilient solution within and across geographically segregated data
centers. I also completed the migration of application which were integrated with Cisco Firewall Services Module to Citrix
NetScalers.

Achievements  Proof of concept implementation of Hyper-V
 Complete design review and produced the final solution design which was signed off and
implemented. The NetScaler infrastructure includes four NetScaler SDX 11500 appliances
(hosts) running a hypervisor with 12 NetScaler VPXs spanning 2 data centers. The NetScaler
infrastructure performed load balancing, content switching, application delivery by
geolocation, automated failover to DR and form processing functions within core business
applications.
 Successfully delivered a project which entailed migration from physical infrastructure to a
virtual environment and introduction of a new application stack implemented to improve
business process efficiency. The user base grew from 200 to 8000 and the applications
replaced paper-based processes and documents.
 Successfully completed and proved an automated DR solution.

Senior Systems Engineer / Technical Lead
I was a Technical Lead with a team of 8 engineers responsible for tier 3 escalations and project delivery for several
government agencies and small to medium businesses.
Key Competency Technical Lead, Project design and implementation, Server hardware and OS fault diagnosis and
repair, Environment monitoring and management.
Achievements  (NZ Oil Services) Successfully completed an infrastructure migration project from scoping
through to hand over. This project was challenging due to commercial restrictions which
resulted in taking file-based backups of the environment and transposing them into the new
cloud-based infrastructure. The process included the following.
o Assess the Physical infrastructure and Design the new Cloud environment including
a new Citrix farm.
o Prepare new infrastructure in “ReadyCloud” comprising of Windows Small Business
Server 2011 with Exchange 2010, Windows Server 2008R2 with SQL server 2008
and Windows Server 2008R2 with Citrix XenApp 6.
o Migrate data from infrastructure hosted on physical servers onsite to the
ReadyCloud servers and connected 8 sites around New Zealand.
 (New Zealand Fire Service – Technical Lead) Lead a team of 8 engineers, we fielded tier 3
escalations and were responsible for commissioning the HP cClass Blade infrastructure
which hosted the Citrix environment across 2 datacenters and servicing 9000 users.
 (New Zealand Fire Service – Technical Lead) Successfully completed the project to upgrade
the Citrix XenApp infrastructure from 4.5 to 6.5.
 (Shell New Zealand) Successfully planned and moved 26 racks of infrastructure from a
datacenter, which was decommissioned, to another ahead of time and budget and only

conceding 2 minor hardware failures. The timelines were tight and to achieve our target I
lead 4 teams of engineers and 1 external vendor, totaling 24 members.
 (Ministry of Justice – Technical Lead) Successfully completed a datacenter consolidation
project. I was the lead field engineer involved in scoping, planning and consolidating servers
from 4 sites to 2 datacenters. Following the completion of the physical consolidation, I lead a
team of engineers in commissioning an HP Blade infrastructure fleet and migrated from
physical to virtual infrastructure.
 (Ministry of Justice) Successfully planned and deployed servers to all main centers in New
Zealand, built them as SuSE Linux based automated voice transcription nodes.
 (Department of Corrections) Successfully commissioned NetScaler Gateways in 2
datacenters.
