 It was originally known as the
State of Mysore but was renamed
as Karnataka in the year 1973.
 It is in South India.
 Its area is about 191,791 km
square.
 There are a total number of 31
district in it with the population
of 6.41 crores. Karnataka was
formed on 1 November 1956.
Its attractions and traditions.

3. Hampi 4. Mysore
The traditional dress of women in
Karnataka is sarees and for men its ‘Panche’
also known as lungi.

Karnataka
 Karnataka has a tropical
monsoon climate. The main
characteristics of this climate is
hot and moist summer while
winters are cold and dry.
 Due to this type of climate the
forest region of Karnataka is
unique and diverse.
 There are a total of 7 type of
different forests in Karnataka.
 The main crops grown in
Karnataka are rice, ragi, jowar,
maize and pulses.

states in India.
 Its contribution in the GDP in the
year 2015 – 16 was about 7.54%
 Literacy rate in Karnataka is
fairly high with 75.36%

Karnataka is 23 deaths per 1000
live birth which is much better
than other states in India.

kannada forms.
 Kuppali Venkatappa
Puttappa popularly known
by his pen name kuvempu is
the most famous poet in
Karnataka. He was the first
kannada writer to be
decorated with the
Jnanpith Award.
