the first confirmation of deaths by Beijing from the border clash that also killed at least 20
Indian soldiers. • India and China fought a border war in 1962 and have long accused each
other of seeking to cross their frontier - which has never been properly agreed – in India's
Ladakh region, just opposite Tibet. • In mid-June, 20 Indian soldiers were killed in a brutal,
high-altitude border battle in the Galwan valley in one of the deadliest clashes between the

disallowed around 600 Sikhs intending to visit Pakistan from Feb 18 to 25 for the 100th
anniversary of Saka Nankana Sahib. The group was expected to visit five gurdwaras in
Pakistan.
• With 504,500 doses of Covid-19 vaccine having been dispatched to the federating units,
Pakistan is expected to receive another 5.6 million vaccines by the end of March. • As so far
only 72,882 frontline healthcare workers have got themselves vaccinated in the country, the
government has decided to start registering general health professionals, too, from Monday
(Feb 22) for the vaccination programme. The National Command and Operation Centre
(NCOC) on Saturday announced that general healthcare workers could register themselves on

• The Sindh irrigation department and the Water and Power Develop-ment Authority

(Wapda) are at loggerheads over the construction of the Rs125 billion Sindh barrage,
approved by Prime Minister Imran Khan in August 2019. • A couple of months back Wapda
sent its inception report for a feasibility study of the project. Sindh irrigation experts
responded to it and raised technical objections. However, Wapda in its response, by and
large, stick to its report and indicated that it will approach the irrigation secretary to resolve
the issue, an official told Dawn.
• Karachi Port Trust (KPT) handled 739,493 tonnes of total cargo during the week (Feb 16-
19) in which the share of import and export goods stood at 505,689 tonnes and 233,804
tonnes respectively. • In import category, the share of containerised cargo stood at 238,471
tonnes while a total of 118,026 tonnes of oil and liquid cargo was handled followed by
84,288 tonnes of wheat, 37,902 tonnes of bulk cargo and 27,002 tonnes of soyabean seed. •
On export front 173,288 tonnes of containerized cargo was handled followed by 51,840
tonnes of clinkers, 6.700 tonnes of oil and liquid cargo and 1,976 tonnes of bulk cargo.
