Did Emily Davison intend on killing herself?

On Wednesday, the 4th June 1913,a suffragette by the name of

Emily Wilding Davison jumped in front of a speeding horse in a
derby, killing herself. To this day, debates happen as to weather her
death was intentional or not.I think Emily Davison was ready for
things to go wrong, and I’ll show how she was ready to lose her
life, but how she didn’t intend on losing it.

First off,Emily Davison was always in the frontline of this battle for
rights, which can be shown by the fact that she committed 5 acts
of protesting, such as setting mailboxes on fire, in the period of 2
years. This piece of evidence from her prison record tells us that
she was no stranger to putting her life and safety at risk for the
Suffrage movement.Another piece of evidence that we can use to
prove this point even further is how invested she was in this
movement. On the biography by G.Colmore of Emily Davison,”The
life of Emily Davison”,he mentions how she would want to come
everyday to the Suffragette Summer festival, and had spent the all
day there.this was a day before the derby that led to her
death, and note how she acted so brightly and wanted to come
everyday, and behaved like nothing bad was going to happen. And
in terms of reliability,a biography about her and her police records
seem very reliable.

On the live footage from the horrific accident,Emily attempted to

grab or attach something to the horse, trying not to throw herself
in front of it,but rather wanting to do something to it.A witness by
the name of John Ervine, who was an eyewitness on that
day, recalls the same thing described happening,as she approached
the horse holding something in her hand. Also, later when her body
was inspected for belongings,2 suffragette flags were found
pinned inside her coat.Perhaps she intended on pinning that on
the horse, but she hadn’t planned on it being that fast?

Now,what makes this point even stronger is that, according to her

friends, she hadn’t written her mother a farewell message. They
say that she wouldn’t have done something like that if she had
known she’d be dying, which makes me think that it was very
unintentional.I find this reliable enough,as them being her friends
probably knew she had a good relationship with her mother.

And finally,in conclusion, from all her belongings during the

accident,to how she didn’t say goodbye to her mother,I believe it
seems pretty clear that she was ready to die,as seen on her
writings and her criminal record, but from her actions prior to the
accident, from having a non worried attitude a day before, and not
saying anything to her mother,it makes it clear that the she hadn’t
expected her death, meaning that it was not a suicide, rather a
publicity stunt gone very wrong.
