Basic Fire Awareness for Schools

Duration: One hour

Course overview:

To provide staff with a basic understanding of fire and fire procedures; to assist the school
with its legal obligations; and, to help staff to reduce the risk of arson.

The course is designed to provide a very cost-effective way of training your staff with the
minimum disruption to timetables. It meets the minimum requirements under the Regulatory
Reform Order (Fire Safety) 2005.

Who should attend: All employees as part of their induction or continuation training. 

Objectives: At the end of the course students will:

 Be aware of the dangers of fire

 Understand what to do in the event of a fire alarm


 Be able safely to evacuate the building

Content:

 Fire procedures in the workplace

 Reducing the risk of arson


 Responding to the fire alarm
 Responding to an outbreak of fire
 Types and uses of firefighting equipment

Fire Warden for Schools
Duration: Three Hours

Course overview

To provide designated staff with the skills to enable them to carry out their duties regarding
fire safety and fire emergency procedures.  To help staff to reduce the risk of arson. To
describe their responsibilities as Fire Warden/Marshals. To assist the school and the
organisation to comply with their legal obligations.

Who should attend

Staff with designated responsibilities for fire safety. The number of Fire Wardens/Marshals
MUST be sufficient to ensure that there is always a competent person on site at all times
when the premises are occupied. The will depend on the number of floors/departments and
the building design and use.

Objectives

At the end of the course students will:

 Be aware of the dangers of fire

 Understand the nature of fire and how it spreads


 Be aware of simple fire prevention measures
 Understand what to do in the event of a fire alarm
 Be able to distinguish between different types of fire extinguishers
 Be able to tackle small fires safely and effectively
 Be equipped to perform their fire safety duties
