V. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the . Drill
new lesson Mental Computation: Give me a number that is
a) one more than 9
b) one more than 99
c) one more than 999
What happens to 9 when you add 1?
Review on place value and the relationship of each
digit to another digit in a given number.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Ask the pupils the electrical appliances they have
at home. Elicit from them which of these consume
the most electricity.
Ask the pupils how much they pay for their
monthly electric bill. Get some reactions. How
would you help lessen your electric consumption?
Why?
Let pupils form a circle.
Let them move clockwise then counterclockwise.
Do the activity a few times.
C. Presenting Examples/Instances of new lesson Present the problem posted in Engage part and
give enough time to the pupils to understand the
problems.
Mr. Dela Cruz is computing his monthly electrical
consumption. Based on his electric bill, last month
he was able to consume 00125 kWh. When he
checked his digital electric meter, the reading is
00199 kWh. How many kilowatt-hours did Mr.
Dela Cruz consume this month?
Observe the meter readings below (TG p.302)

For us to get the amount of electricity that Mr.

Dela Cruz consumed, subtract the previous electric
meter reading from the present electric meter
reading.
00199-00125=74 kWh
So, Mr. Dela Cruz consumed 74 kWh of electricity
for this month.

Explain the steps in reading electric

meter. (Mathletes txbk p. 303)

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new Show the video of “How to Read Your Electric
skills #1 Meter”.
Present example no. 1: Group Activity
Read and interpret the dials on the electric meter
below.
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new Present Example no. 2: Group Activity
skills #2 A. Read and interpret the dials on the meter
below. Start reading the dials from right to
left.

Group Activity: Read and interpret the dials on

the electric meter below.

Answer:

its area?
Write an expression about the problem.
What is the equation?

Can you write 7 x 7 in another way? How?

What do you call 7 in 72? 2 in 72?
What is the exponent? base?

F. Developing mastery Distribute an activity sheet to each group.

(Leads to Formative Assessment)

Draw a dial to show the readings.

1. 5 035 4. 6 614
2. 5 148 5. 7 035
3. 6 524
Give the difference of:
1. 1 & 2
2. 3 & 4
3. 4 & 5
4. 1 & 3
Which has the greatest difference?
Which pair will have the biggest bill? Explain
G. Finding practical applications of concepts and TABLE OF ELECTRIC READINGS
skills in daily living Househo Previo Prese kwh
ld us nt Use
d
A 2 150 2 288
B 7 285 7 810
C 4 605 4 938
D 6 214 6 576
E 6 435 6 795

2.Study the table and compute the kwh used.

Discussion:
a)Which household consumed the most? the
least?
b)Which two household consumed almost the
same kwh? What can you say about their bill?
c)As a member of the household, how can you
lower your electric bill?
Why is it important to use electricity wisely?

H. Making generalizations and abstractions How do the dials of the electric meter move?
about the lesson How do you read the dials of a meter?
To read correctly:
Read the dials from left to right.
If the pointer is between the two numbers, always
take the lower number.
If the pointer is directly over a number, write
down that one.
If the pointer falls between 9 and 0, write down 9
and reduce the reading you've already taken for
the dial on it's left by one.

I. Evaluating Learning

2.What is the electric consumption?

3. Draw the dials to show:
a. 2 356 kwh c. 5 623 kwh
b. 3 562 kwh d. 6 325 kwh
J. Additional activities for application and .
remediation 1. Bring an old electric bill.
2.Read your electric meter
