II. BRIEF CONTEXT/PERSPECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY

<Minimum of 3 paragraphs answering the following questions in application of the Lasallian Reflection
Framework>

(Part 1)
 What situation do you see (observation/s) in your organization, university, society, or our world?
 What certain experiences, problems, or questions do you have in relation to what you see? (May be
supported with data or research if there is any or if needed)
(Part 2)
 Why is there a problem?
 What could be the cause and effect?
 How did you feel about the experience, situation, or problem? And why did you feel that way?
 What can we discover or realize?

(Part 3)
 Out of all the possible projects, activities, and solutions, Why this?
The need to be able to accurately monitor forest cover and quality is crucial to
understanding the costs of deforestation. But, it may also help to determine baselines to
detect and observe changes of vegetation and understanding the loss of biodiversity over
time.

Thus knowledge of plants is fundamental for assessing the current ecological

characteristics of a natural area and for assessing future changes. Long term monitoring
of plants can reveal changes in the habitat of a specific area and by extension, how that
habitat is likely to support different animals. Plant monitoring has an obvious advantage
over monitoring of animals in that plants do not move, thus detectability (being able to
detect a species when it is present) is a minor issue.

 As an organization, what will you commit as a response to what you have stated in Part 2?

(Part 4)
 Briefly state what will happen to your project/ program.
The data that will be collected can be replicated in any community. Widespread use
will enable long-term comparative studies of tree growth and longevity. So that, more
and more communities are beginning to recognize the very tangible benefits that trees
provide in the urban environment.

 Who will be your project/program beneficiaries?

The farmer and community growers who have extensive involvement of the rural
community in many participatory forestry projects will benefit to this project. The
implementation of this type of project, the researchers and future researcher can also
benefit to this project by giving rise for new kind of information and new issues to be
evaluated. Improved access to this information would enable forest owners to act
faster and they adapt to their forest management practices in response to any changes
within their forest.
 Who will be your partner/s in this project/ program?
We will expect the presence of some volunteers and participants that is committed to
be involved in this tree monitoring activity. We will also expect the presence of some
experts on this field from DENR and the community in Malagos Davao City.
