Newton’s Laws Class:

1. Who invented physics as we know it today?

Issac Newton

2. Write the equation for Newton’s most profound law:

Force=mass x acceleration

3. What is special about the acceleration of a falling body?

Acceleration is constant and it is the same for all falling bodies(g).

4. Who first conceived the idea of inertia?

Galileo
5. Define Newton’s Third Law:
The mutual actions upon each other is always equal. Bodies don’t act they interact with each
other.

6. What is special about the horizontal speed of a projectile?

No force acts in the horizontal direction so the acceleration is zero, the speed is constant.

7. What did Aristotle think caused the movement of a projectile?

Air itself is responsible for the movement.

8. Who discovered that all projectiles follow parabolic paths?

Galileo

9. If there were no gravity, what path would a projectile follow?

Any projectile would go in a straight line with the same vertical and horizontal speed it started
out with.

10. In the monkey-hunter demonstration, where must the hunter initially aim the gun to hit
the monkey as he falls?

Directly at the monkey.

11. What is the single most important equation in all of physics?

F=ma
