INTRO TO ENGINEERING SYSTEMS VOCABULARY TERMS- WRITE THE DEFINITIONS TO THE FOLLOWING TERMS AS YOU
ARE VIEWING THE VIDEO:

ADJACENCY- The distance between rooms in a house; how close or how far apart.

BUILDING CODE- Set of rules specifying minimum standards for construction.

BUILDING ENVELOPE-specialized set of building components that keeps the elements out and regulates the climate
inside, as well as allowing for access and protection.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS- provides power to everything in the house and control systems inside the house.

FIXTURE- Systems fixed into a building to become part of the building.

FENESTRATION- The arrangement of windows and doors on the elevations of a building

FOUNTATION- Transmits weight of the building into the earth to keep it safe.

GROUNDWATER- Water first obtained to be purified and used in a resident.

HVAC- Heating, ventilating and air conditioning system; also regulates climate inside, and supplies fresh air.

MODEL CODE- Consensus recommendation of the professional community represented by a particular standards
organization.

STANDARDS ORGANIZATION- national groups that adopt building codes based on current standards.

THERMOSTAT- A device in a resident that regulates temperature.

TRANSMISSION- Movement of electricity through wires to local and residential power grids.

WASTEWATER- Used water that comes from the resident to the treatment plant as its now unusable.
