wheels if it senses that the driver's command is not the same as the vehicle's actual
travel direction. The system reduces the risk of skidding and reduces the risk of roll-
ing over when cornering at too high a speed.

ESP uses information from other vehicle systems and is affected by a large number
of parameters, for example:

• Wheels
• Driving
• The steering system's design
• Wheel suspension
• Engine
• Retarder
• Gear changing
• Brake system
• Trailer system (TCM)

The parameters are unique for each vehicle.

IMPORTANT!

The installation of ESP sensors and their brackets must not be changed. Any change
can lead to the ESP's function being impaired, which affects the vehicle's driving
characteristics. If any of the sensors must be removed during the bodybuilding, it
must be refitted in the same way and thereafter be calibrated.
For more information on SOPS, refer to Reprogramming control units under General
information, Managing the vehicle's electrical system.

General information on ESP

The interpretation of the input signals to ESP is controlled by the SOPS file. There-
fore, it is important that SOPS (Scania On-board Product Specification) describes the
vehicle's bodywork correctly.

ESP setting for trailers with ABS

If a trailer without ABS is coupled to a tractor with ESP, the ESP will automatically
set itself to a mode with reduced ESP function. In certain markets it is permitted to
couple more than one trailer to the truck. The tractor can only sense if the first trailer
is equipped with ABS. If more than one trailer are coupled to a tractor with ESP and
the first trailer has ABS and not the others, the tractor will assume that all trailers are
equipped with ABS. To be able to handle markets that permit more than one trailer
to be coupled to a tractor, there is an option where you can order ESP with a switch-
off function.

Connection
If a trailer with ABS is coupled to a tractor, ESP will sense this if the ESP is set for
trailer with ABS.
