Writing a Given Number as a
Product of Its Prime Factors
Republic Act 8293, section 176 states that: No copyright shall subsist in
any work of the Government of the Philippines. However, prior approval of the
government agency or office wherein the work is created shall be necessary for
exploitation of such work for profit. Such agency or office may, among other
things, impose as a condition the payment of royalties.
To get the prime factors of the number using the Factor Tree, follow these
steps:
1. Think of two numbers that will give the product of 18.
3 x 6 = 18 (3 is a prime factor, but not 6.)
2. Think of two numbers that will give the product of 6.
2 x 3 = 6 (2 is a prime factor.)
3. Put all the prime factors together.
(2 x 3 x 3) This can also be expressed in exponential form as 2 x 3²
18 Prime Factorization
˄
3x6 18 = 2 x 3 x 3 or 2 x 32
˄
2x3
B. By using Continuous Division or Decomposition Method
To get the prime factors using Decomposition Method or Continuous
Division Method, follow these steps:
1. Start by dividing the number by a prime number divisor.
2. Write the divisor on the left hand side and the quotient below
the original number.
3. Continue dividing the number by a prime divisor until the
quotient is already a prime.

18 = 2 x 3 x 3 or 2 x 32
