Teaching Reflection

The only strengths I would have as a beginning teacher in Health would be skills that

translate over from teaching a Physical Education class. For example, the strengths I would have

include, classroom management, effective set inductions, and having an effective teachers voice.

The weaknesses I have in this subject would be lack of content knowledge. For example, I would

have to learn the content before I could effectively teach it.

For a Physical Education class, I have more strengths than weaknesses. For example, my

strengths include classroom management, effective transitions, refinements, effective upward

and downward extensions, and set inductions. These strengths would transition more fluently

from last semester to this one because we are going to be in a similar environment for Physical

Education. However, a weakness I would have would be how to effectively keep classroom

management with the older kids. For example, the seniors last year would describe the older kids

having more behavioral issues than the elementary school kids. Another weakness I have would

be the ability to create an entire unit plan for my group to teach on because I have not done that

before.

The areas I need specific improvement on this semester are time management, positivity,

and teamwork. For example, in the classroom last semester, I would not have effective time

management which would cause me to rush through the content. Also, I need improvement on

my positivity and teamwork because I would start to get overwhelmed by writing the lesson plan

for multiple teams. This would cause me to resent the people in my cohort, and the teamwork in

our skills and strategies courses would deteriorate. Therefore, with better mindsets, my positivity

and teamwork will improve.

The only areas I believe I need feedback on would be my classroom management and

progressions. For example, last semester I would get berated on my classroom management,

but I would never receive feedback on how to improve it. It was as if I should have already

know how to effectively manage fifty elementary school students. Also, as I stated above the

time management aspect of teaching was difficult to me. Therefore, my progressions would

suffer from not having effective time management. If I received positive feedback for these

areas, I would feel more comfortable inside the classroom.
