1. A specimen of ductile cast iron having a rectangular cross section of dimensions 4.8
mm x 15.9 mm is pulled in tension. The load–elongation characteristics are listed in
the table below. Plot the stress–strain diagram, and determine:
a. the ultimate stress
b. the fracture stress
c. the modulus of elasticity
d. the yield strength at a strain offset of 0.002
e. the approximate ductility in percent elongation
2. The acrylic plastic rod is 200 mm long and 15 mm in diameter. If an axial load of 300
N is applied to it, determine the change in its length and the change in its diameter.
