Currently, sustainability is a very popular topic in dialogues and agreements
between countries and governments; however, few know clearly what its meaning
and importance is.
There are different definitions of sustainability, one of them is the one adopted by
the World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987. Which is the
following:
"Sustainable development refers to the capacity that the human system has developed to
satisfy the needs of current generations without compromising resources and
opportunities for the growth and development of future generations."
In the study “The modern concept of sustainability” carried out by Eng. Arturo M.
Calvente of the Inter-American Open University, mention is made of a more
comprehensive Swedish definition when defining a sustainable society as one in
which:
“Economic development, social welfare and integration are linked with a quality
environment. This society has the ability to meet its current needs without impairing the
ability of future generations to meet theirs.
In the same study, one more definition is proposed from the economic point of
view:
"Sustainability is the ability to achieve sustained economic prosperity while protecting the
planet's natural systems and providing a high quality of life for people."
All these definitions, from their different types of view, have in common the
environmental well-being to achieve a correct relationship between nature and its
resources with the human race and its biological, economic and social needs.
CONCLUSION
The studies carried out that indicate the efforts that countries are making to face
one of the greatest challenges which is sustainable development. One cannot fail
to mention the use of resources in order to provide solutions to the inhabitants who
derive their livelihood through activities of exploitation and transformation of
resources. As they are supplying a series of forest products other than wood and of
commercial importance for food, drugs, etc. Finally, it is concluded that in order to
have a more satisfactory relationship between society and nature, changes caused
by human activities must be prevented in a timely manner in order to minimize
them.
PERSONAL OPINION
It is very important to know that we humanity are to blame for the fact that in the
future natural resources will run out and the quality of life today is something very
worrying to avoid scarcity, some of the measures we can take are:
3- Quick shower; close the tap while we brush our teeth, shave or soap.
4- Proceed with drip irrigation, watering in the early and late hours of the day.
