Lesson Plan

In
Mathematics 8

Date: October 8, 2020

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. determine the probability of simple events;
b. identify the probability of simple events through a given sample events;
and
c. solve real-life problems using the principles of counting techniques and
probability.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic : Probability of Simple Events
B. Materials : Google Meet, Internet Connection
C. Reference : Mathematics – Grade 8 Learner’s
Module First Edition, 2013
: E-Math 10 by Orlando A. Oronce and Marilyn O.
Mendoza

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary/Preparatory Activities
 Prayer
 Checking of Attendance
B. Lesson Proper
a. Activity
Have a learner rearrange a set of letters to identify a term related to
probability.
1. OTUOMEC
2. ILITPYOBARB
3. ALSEP ESCAP
4. NETEV
5. PSLEIM ETENV

b. Analysis
1. What is Probability?
2. What is the formula to be used in finding the Probability of
simple event?
3. How to integrate the formula in solving real life problems?

C. Abstraction
What is a PROBABILITY?
 Probability is the chance that some event will happen
 It is the ratio of the number of ways a certain event can occur to the number of
possible outcomes
Outcome – one possible result of a probability.
Sample Space – the list of possible outcomes for a probability event.
Simple Event – a specific outcome or type of outcome.
Complementary Events – the events of one outcome happening and that outcomes not
happening are complimentary; the sum of the probabilities of complementary events is 1.

Provide these five problems involving finding the probability of simple and compound events.
1. What is the probability of rolling a 4?
2. What is the probability of rolling an even number?
3. What is the probability of spinning green?
4. What is the probability of flipping a tail
5. What is the probability of picking a heart?

D. Application
BestLink is having an INPODS giveaway. They put all the INPOD Shuffles in a bag.
Customers may choose an INPOD without looking at the color. Inside the bag are 4 orange, 5
blue, 6 green, and 5 pink INPODS. If Maria chooses one IPOD at random, what is the
probability she will choose an orange INPOD?

IV. Assessment/Evaluation

A. Calculate the probability of each independent event.

1) P(red) =
2) P(2) =
3) P(not red) =
4) P(even) =

Answer the following questions on finding the probability of simple event

1. In rolling a fair die once, what is the probability of getting a number greater than
4?
2. In rolling a die, what is the probability of getting a number less than 6?
3. There are 4 blue pens, 6 red pens, and 2 green pens in a bag. If a pen is drawn
at random from the bag, what is the probability that a green pen is drawn?
4. A family has three children. What is the probability of getting a last child which is
a boy?
5. In a box, there are 24 balls numbered 1 through 24. If a ball is drawn from the
box, what is the probability that the ball shows a number divisible by 5?

V. Assignment

1. In a box, there are 24 balls numbered 1 through 24. If a ball is drawn from
the box, what is the probability that the ball shows a number divisible by
5?ss
2. If a letter is to be selected from the word MILLENNIALS, find the
probability that the letter is:
-a vowel
- a consonant
