Course Outcome 2
Subject Matters:
I. Conclusion
The conclusion is created to help the reader understand the importance of the study made.
Note that a conclusion is not merely a summary of the whole paper content from introduction,
but a synthesis of key points, how the objectives were met, and how your results turned out. For
most papers, about two to three paragraph can suffice a well-developed conclusion. The aim of
writing a conclusion is to leave the reader with a clear understanding of the main discovery you
made on your paper, or a scientific argument that your research paper has taken. A good
conclusion is able to explain the entire gist of your research without omitting major facts or
figures (e.g. data).
1.1. Annotation
In research, reading expectation is a great challenge. Reading more “academic” type of materials
in less time and usually recall the information as soon as the next paper will be read would be quite
difficult. The problem here is that students read a lot of papers and sometimes do not remember what
they have read, or have trouble analyzing what they have read. Annotation will be a great tool to help
you learn how to actively engage with a text or other media. Annotating properly is all about generating
insights and ideas from the paper to your own which may be used in making good content to a research
paper. Annotations will ensure that you understand what is happening in a text when you come back to
it, or provide others with valuable information about the text. You can add annotations by hand or by
using the commenting tools of software such as Google Docs or Adobe Acrobat.
Examples
Annotating using Adobe Reader. Open the pdf file in Adobe Reader and look for the conclusion section.
Highlight the section you want to choose and then click ‘highlight text’ as seen in figure 1.
You may then add comments using ‘add sticky notes’ tool as seen in Figure 2. You may then click
beside the area you want to put in your annotation.
Annotation
Annotate the conclusion and recommendation of the paper. Determine which is the main objective of
the paper. What was the main findings? Determine what the main conclusion of the paper is with
regards to the topic. For the recommendation section, it may not be seen in all publications but may be
evident in the conclusion section (highlight). What will be the impact of the paper or how it will
contribute to the field?
The conclusion from the study done by Angeles-Agdeppa, Magsadia, and Capanzana (2011) on Fortified
Juice Drink Improved Iron and Zinc Status of Schoolchildren was annotated as an example as seen in
figure 3. It was seen from their conclusion that their main objective was to improve iron and zinc status
of schoolchildren using fortification and was considered to be reasonably effective. The main finding of
their study showed that short duration of the intervention and low dosage led to having low growth
density. Yet there was a significant increase in weight and height from their sample, deeming the
process effective. Lastly, their recommendation would be to do deworming process before the
intervention of fortified drinks to have a better effect/outcome. By application, when it comes to
consumption of iron and zinc fortified food or fortification in general, deworming may be beneficial for
the consumer.

1. Title: Three
-level Supply Chain Considering Direct and Indirect Transportation Cost and
Carbon Emission
Authors and Year: Ong, Robielos, Jou, and Wee (2019)
- Study extensions were mentioned. Optimum minimization would be beneficial for applying the
SSMD policy if the industrial cost considering the carbon emission would be less than the holding cost.
In addition, the algebraic approach done for the paper presents a positive outcome and would be
easier to manipulate in real-life scenarios. Compared to integrated derivations where results are
sometimes difficult to manipulate for the application of the different supply chains in the industry, this
model is flexible for adaptation to a supply chain’s needs. The presented numerical example and
sensitivity analysis for the main parameters would be easily manipulated for application purposes of
different SSMD policy-applied industries. The study could be extended if the demand will be made in a
stochastic approach to simulate a real-life scenario when it comes to inventory.
