What They Do?

Tata Chemicals has the largest salt works in Asia, and is the 3rd largest soda ash manufacturer
as also the 6th largest sodium bicarbonate manufacturer in the world. The company’s key
products are soda ash, soda bicarbonate, cement, salt, marine chemicals and crushed refined
soda.

Sustainability as a practice is at the core of all of Tata Chemicals' activities, including our
corporate social responsibility initiatives, and is intricately woven into all our business functions.
TATA Chemicals undertakes an abundance of initiatives to make the world a better place.
Conserving natural resources and reducing emissions and waste at its operations to be specific.
Some of the areas where they focus on sustainable practices include:
1. Plastic Recycle: The company segregates recyclable plastic and follows the instructions
provided by the municipality or government bodies to make the recycling process easier
and cost effective.
2. Energy Efficiency: Energy is a significant material aspect for Tata Chemicals including
setting up renewable energy sources, using highly effective transportation modes, and
regularly conducting energy saving drives at warehouses.
3. Emissions: TCL has introduced internal norms to provide a safer and better environment
for the surrounding communities. Half-yearly external monitoring is also done by a third
party.
4. Water: All measures to reduce water usage are implemented and water sources are
metered and monitored regularly. The organisation has set forth stringent targets year-
on-year to reduce water consumption, and reviews them on a weekly basis.
5. Waste: Tata Chemicals focuses on effective integration with the basic philosophy of
resource optimisation, use of alternative sources and maximisation of “recycle and
reuse” by innovation. All hazardous and non-hazardous waste across locations is sold to
authorised and registered dealers and organic waste is composted.
6. Climate Change: Tata Chemicals has adopted the Climate Change policy issued by the
Tata Group, which includes mapping carbon footprints and creating an abatement
strategy for sustainable manufacturing. TCL’s strategy includes identifying opportunities
for carbon abatement, investing in low carbon growth and tapping into opportunities
presented by the emerging low carbon technologies.

2. Eco friendly companies(Aryan)

Patagonia
Started with climbing gear, Patagonia ended up by selling various equipment and activewear for
adventurers of all kinds. The founder of the company, rock climber Yvon Chouinard, is a
recognized environmental activist and he has carried his passion for protecting the Earth
through all his life and business making Patagonia one of the most environmentally friendly
companies.

Nearly 70 per cent of Patagonia’s products are made from recycled materials, including plastic
bottles, and the goal is to use 100 per cent renewable or recycled materials by 2025. The
company also uses hemp and organic cotton. It is committed to simplicity, utility and durability --
a novel undertaking in a world where fast fashion is the norm for many companies and
consumers.
Since 1986, the company has contributed at least 1 per cent of annual sales to the preservation
and restoration of the natural environment. In 2002, Chouinard and Craig Mathews, founder of
Blue Ribbon Flies, created a non-profit organization -- 1% for the Planet -- to encourage other
companies to do the same.
Thanks to its 1 per cent pledge, Patagonia has provided more than US$100 million to
grassroot organizations and helped train thousands of young activists over the past 35 years.

Unilever has done more than make green investments, it’s made sustainability part of its
corporate identity. The company’s Sustainable Living Plan sets targets for sourcing, supply
chain and production on everything from energy and water use to treatment of suppliers and
communities where they operate. When it was first adopted in 2010, CEO Paul Polman said he
wanted to double the company’s business while halving its environmental impact in just 10
years. It’s made amazing strides: three quarters of Unilever’s nonhazardous waste does not go
to landfills and the share of its agricultural suppliers that use sustainable practices has tripled.
The United Nations awarded the company’s CEO its Champion of the Earth Award in 2015 for
his efforts toward reaching this goal.

What do they do
Adobe systems was the greenest IT company in Newsweek’s 2014 rankings, a well-earned
distinction. The company has already made some impressive achievements, including obtaining
LEED certification for more than 70 per cent of its workspaces, including retrofitting a historic
building in San Francisco. It also has ambitious goals—including getting to net zero energy
consumption and reducing its packaging, packaging being a resource drain and big contributor
to plastic pollution. Adobe was also a corporate leader in reducing its water use to respond to
California’s historic drought, even after it had already reduced its water use by more than 60 per
cent since 2000 through means like installing environmentally friendly fixtures and landscaping
with native plants.

5.Ecological Companies(Toshani)
Seventh Generation
Seventh Generation not only uses sustainable practices, it’s also created space for green
products in a particularly environmentally destructive industry – household cleaners. Cleaning
products are mostly washed down the drain, and despite the best efforts of wastewater
treatment plants, some of the strong and toxic chemicals still pollute groundwater and
waterways. Often, the argument against more environmentally friendly ones is they don’t work
as well – but that myth died with the success of Seventh Generation. Now, even brands like
Clorox have created greener versions of their products to meet demand for environmentally
friendly cleaning options.
