Assignment2:
Question no1:
Briefly explain the Atkinson &Shiffrin memory model.
Answer:
The multistore model of memory (is also known as modal model) was proposed by Atkinson
and Shiffrin (1968) and is a structural model. They proposed that memory consisted of three
stores; a sensory register, short term memory and long term memory.
Information passes through store to store in a linear way, and has been described as an
information processing model (like a computer) with an input, process and output.
Information is detected by sense organs and enters the sensory memory. If attended to this
information enters the short term memory.
Information from the short term memory is transferred to the long term memory only if that
information is rehearsed. If maintenance rehearsal does not occur then information is
forgotten, and lost from short term memory through the process of displacement or decay.
Question no 2:
Write down any five interesting facts about human memory. You may take help from
reference books or various internet resources.
Answer:
1. Short term memory only lasts 20 to 30 seconds.
2. The human brain’s storage capacity is virtually limitless.
3. Sleep is significant t memory. Sleep helps in retrieval and storage of long term
memories.
4. Many people link aging with memory loss. However the memory loss people
experience as they age is because they tend to exercise their brains less.
5. Your memory has the ability to associate a scent with a particular occurrence or event.
Question no 3:
Why is attention an integral part of short-term working memory? Enlist any five daily
life tasks for which you rely upon short term memory.
Answer:
Attention is an integral part of short term memory. Attention is very important in short term
working memory. Because we cannot do anything without paying attention. For instance if
we are adding two numbers without attention we cannot add them. Working memory is one
of the most important topics of cognitive psychology along with attention. The memories that
are currently active are often referred to as working memory because they are the knowledge
which we can currently work with. Working memory pull out the information from our long
term memory. Working memory also understand our information and input. But working
memory does not do more works at the same time because Short Term Memory is limited in
capacity.
Daily tasks.
1. When someone tells us their number we saved their number in our short term
memory. And then we write down their number on our notebook after this we forget
their number.
2. When we are watching a reality show and after sometime a person asked to us about
the reality show that who performed batter and who sings better. We used there our
short term memory.
3. When we memorise our lectures and work. And memorize the exams material so there
we used our short term memory.
4. When we read previous line and we
