WHAT IS SAAS ?

– SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE GUIDE

 SAAS (SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE) – A BUSINESS AID

It is a specially designed model which helps accessing software over the internet without
downloading the software itself onto your computer. SAAS replaces the need of
physically purchasing the software and installation. A third party vendor controls access
over the it and takes actions and responsibilities for security, maintenance, and
upgrades. SAAS is an acronym for software as a service.
Now some of the people may question that how is it different from the desktop
application. Typically, SAAS don’t require any installation, and they can be easily
accessed over the internet through a web browser. For Example. Dropbox helps in file
storage in cloud and Salesforce was one of the first companies to use it in cloud.
Nowadays more and more companies are shifting to SAAS as an alternative. It makes
easier for software companies and firms to get rid of lot of pain of deploying software,
pushing updates, and scaling users. For the users and companies, it avoids the
investments and costs of buying or paying for the software package.

 ADVANTAGES OF SAAS – A BOON

I. WORK FROM ANYWHERE – SAAS offers the users and companies, the
ability to work from anywhere from the world, because of lower initial
investments and saves time also.
II. SIMILAR PRICE MODEL – It basically has similar price model like, paying for
what you need is simply you can manage. For Example. – In your company,
there are 15 employees needy for that software, from the total of 300
employees. So, you don’t have to buy the software for all the employees, just
only for 15 employees, who will work on that, thereby helps in reducing extra
costs and saves funds.
III. EASY AND SPEEPILY SETUP – Now, this is one of the major points of
shifting to SAAS from using software directly to computer. It saves time
because of easy to understand interface and energy to fully set it up.
IV. LATEST UPDATES – With SAASs you get, the latest updates of the software
itself and features, thereby saving a lot of time downloading latest upgrades of
that software.

 DISADVANTAGES OF SAAS – A BANE

I. RELIABLE ON INTERNET – The work from SAASs usually depends on the
internet, and it increases reliability on internet of the users which is a negative
point for the productivity of any company.
II. SECURITY CONCERNS – We all know, that SAASs use cloud to store the
data. But, the question arises that how secure is it? Storing your firm data’s
into a cloud software, is a security concern as it may involve some important
data and contacts of the company.
III. COST EFFECTIVE FOR A LIMITED TIME – SAASs are cost effective at first,
but it may involve and add up to costs as the company functions and grows.
There must be adjustments from time to time by the companies.

 MY OWN EXPIERENCE – If I personally talk about my experience, it has

been great using SAASs. For Example – I am a script writer and therefore I
use some free softwares like Celtex to write my scripts, and Celtex is a great
tool if it is used as a SAASs, both for a user and companies, because without
a payment you can just write your scripts and work on that portal online for
free anytime, and can access anywhere.
SAASs are the best alternatives if someone doesn’t wants to use software,
thereby saving both time and money, but at the same time, softwares aren’t to
be ignored completely, as it contributes a lot if we light upon the security
concerns and internet accessibility and reliability.
