Startup / diagnostics
If problems occur in execution, check the S7
stations with the STEP 7/STL on-line tools
and NCM diagnostics.
The CP in the CPs are managed in a STEP 7 project like any other SIMATIC S7 module.
STEP 7 Project The hardware is configured and the user software created and managed with
STEP 7.
Enter project
name here
and confirm
with "OK"
Creating a Project Select the menu options File -> New or click the icon in the toolbar to open
the "New" dialog box, in which you can create a new project or a new library.
Enter the name of your project in the "Name" box and confirm by clicking the "OK"
button.
Notes 1. The path set in the SIMATIC Manager under Options ->
Customize is displayed in the Storage Location box.
2. From STEP 7 V3.2 onwards there is a 'New Project' Wizard to assist you
with creating a new project.
Inserting a Station
You insert a new station in the current project by selecting the menu options Insert -
> Station -> SIMATIC 300 Station or SIMATIC 400 Station.
You can then change the name that is automatically assigned to the station (e.g.
"SIMATIC 300 (1)").
HW Config This tool supports you with configuring and assigning parameters to your hardware
and also helps with diagnostics.
"Hardware This is the window of the "HW Config" application in which you arrange
Configuration" components from the "Hardware Catalog" window.
The title bar of this window contains the project name and the name of the station.
If “Standard” is selected as the catalog profile, all the racks, modules and interface
modules are offered for selection in the "Hardware Catalog" window.
Users can create their own catalog profiles containing frequently used elements by
selecting the menu options Options -> Edit Catalog Profiles.
Generating a This means specifying how the modules are to be arranged in the rack.
Setpoint This configuration specified by the user is referred to as the setpoint
Configuration configuration.
Rack For example, you open a SIMATIC 300 station in the hardware catalog.
Catalog "RACK-300" contains an icon for a DIN rail. You can insert this in the
"Hardware Configuration" window by double-clicking it (or using drag&drop).
Two rack component lists then appear in the two-part window: a plain list in the top
part and a detailed view with order numbers, MPI addresses and I/O addresses in
the bottom part.
Power Supply If a load current power supply is required, you insert the appropriate "PS-300"
module at slot No. 1 in the list with a double click or by drag&drop.
CPU You select the CPU from the "CPU-300" catalog, for example, and insert it in slot 2
with a double click.
Slot 3 Slot 3 is reserved as the logical address for an interface module (for multi-tier
configurations).
If this position is to be reserved for installation of an IM at a later date in the actual
hardware configuration, a DM370 dummy module must be inserted.
Signal Modules From slot 4 onwards you can insert a choice of up to 8 signal modules (SM),
communications processors (CP) or function modules (FM).
You insert modules in a selected slot in the list by double-clicking the module you
want in the catalog.
Or you can insert modules anywhere in the list using drag&drop.
Configuration data
in STEP 7 project
Purpose Before you can connect your SIMATIC stations to a subnet, you must create the
subnet in your project. This enables all parameters relating to the subnet as a
whole to be stored centrally.
Procedure It is advisable to create the subnet before configuring the stations, because the
SIMATIC stations can then be assigned almost automatically.
Proceed as follows:
Result: An object of the Network type is created in the project. All the
SIMATIC stations created in the project can then be connected to this
subnet.
Open NETPRO
Insert stations
Introduction The NETPRO tool enables you to configure networks (MPI, Profibus or
Industrial Ethernet) graphically. The advantages of this tool are its clarity, the
documentation and the ease with which you can call up connected tools, e.g.
Hardware Configuration.
Activation You activate the tool by double-clicking a network symbol, e.g. Ethernet(1), in
the SIMATIC Manager.
Inserting a Station You will find the necessary components, such as subnets and stations, in the
Catalog and you can insert them using drag and drop.
You can access all the functions you need for networking and configuring
connections for Ethernet CPs from the graphical network display.
Procedure You can display and modify general properties of the subnet on the "General" tab
page.
2. Enter an appropriate name for your subnet and any other information
describing it on the "General" tab page.
Project number
Subnet number
Note: If you select the subnet in the SIMATIC Manager (see 1.) the data is displayed in
read-only mode !
Procedure When you install the Ethernet CP in the rack of a SIMATIC station and assign it,
you establish the logical connection between Ethernet CP and subnet.
1. Select the station in your project that you want to connect to Industrial
Ethernet via the Ethernet CP and open the hardware configuration tool
(HW Config...).
You select the CPs using the brief description and order number given
in the hardware catalog. The CPs are included in the catalog and
available for selection when NCM S7 is installed.
When you have entered the Ethernet CP in the hardware configuration, you
connect it to the subnet as follows.
2. If required, enter a suitable name for the CP and enter any other
relevant information in the Comment field.
IP address of the
(TCP/IP) Ethernet CP
You can display and enter/modify the general interface properties of a node on
the "General" tab page.
4. If you have not yet created a subnet in the project or have not yet
created the subnet you require, you can create a subnet now by
clicking the “New” button.
You can then enter a name, the S7 subnet ID and other relevant
information in the "Properties - New Subnet - Industrial Ethernet"
dialog box
7. Confirm your entry with OK, otherwise the network connection will not
be made.
Result: The CP is now configured as the network node for its S7 station.
If the CP uses the TCP/IP protocol, the IP parameters are displayed as well as
the MAC address. You can change the default values.
You can also specify whether you want to use a router and, if so, enter its IP
address.
If the CP supports both ISO and TCP/IP, you must specify whether the (TCP)/IP
protocol will be used.
Overview In addition to setting the network connection, you can also make other module-
specific settings and call up functions.
2. Choose Edit > Object Properties. A dialog box appears containing the
"General" tab page and the following tabs:
- Addresses
- Options
- Diagnostics
Addresses Tab The Addresses tab page shows you the address by which the user program can
address the module. You need this address when calling the FCs for transport
connections.
Time-of-Day You use the Time-of-Day Synchronization option to specify whether the
Synchronization CP is to pass on the time-of-day synchronization message frames for the S7-400
or not.
There are two different cases, depending on where the clock master is located:
- Time-of day synchronization frames can come from the subnet
and have to be passed on to the station.
- Time-of day synchronization frames can come from the station
and have to be passed on to the subnet.
If you are operating more than one CP in your station, you must pay attention to
the flow of time-of-day synchronization frames, because the function described
here could cause you to link time-of-day synchronization frames from one
network to another.
Use Corrected If a station contains several CPs which are all connected to the same
Time network, only one of these CPs must be allowed to pass on time-of-day
synchronization frames.
You use the "Use Corrected Time" option to specify whether a correction factor
which may also be transmitted in the time-of-day synchronization is to be used.
If you check this option, the CP adjusts the time by the correction factor, and the
systems connected to it can then ignore the correction factor.
Example The time transmitted in the time-of-day synchronization frame is 9:21. The frame
also contains the correction factor +2x0.5. The CP passes on the corrected time
10:21 (in this case 1 hour later for summer time).
Replace Module You can use this option to specify that the CP configuration data is to be
without PG saved in the CPU. If the CP is replaced, the configuration data is automatically
downloaded from the CPU when the CP starts up.
If you select this option, data for long-term storage is saved in non-volatile
memory in the CPU instead of in the EEPROM of the CP. Please note that long-
term non-volatile storage in the CPU is only assured if the CPU has a backup
battery or an S7 memory card to protect its data in the event of a power outage.
Ethernet Profile for Choose this profile if your system is designed for fault-tolerant
Fail-Safe Conn. communication. This means that you have implemented redundancy in your
Industrial Ethernet network and configured fail-safe S7 connections.
If you select Ethernet Profile for Fail-Safe Connections here, the time response of
the S7 connections is matched. As a result, interrupted connections are detected
sooner and the switchover to redundant connections is faster.
Note Only select Ethernet Profile for Fail-Safe Connections if you are actually using
fail-safe S7 connections. Otherwise the performance of your system is likely to
be disappointing because, for example, fewer attempts are made at transmission
or at establishing a connection than in a non-redundant system.
SEND/RECEIVE Here you can specify whether the CP of an S7-300 station is to support
Data length > 240 jobs with a data length of > 240 bytes.
Note Transfer of more than 240 bytes of data is supported by newer CP versions.
Please read the product information for your Ethernet CP.
Please note that if you select this option for S7-300 you are using one of the
connection resources of the S7-300 CPU (free connection for S7 functions)! CPU
connection resources are also used, for example, by S7-300 CPs in FMS mode
or by PGs and OPs.
Requirements Make a physical connection between the PG and the SIMATIC S7 station and
assign parameters for the PG/PC interface to make the CP accessible. You can
obtain further assistance with this in the function “Setting the PG/PC Interface...”.
Principle The configuration data for the Ethernet CP is downloaded from the hardware
configuration. All the configuration data of the S7 station is downloaded, including
the central configuration, the configuration of all the relevant DP master systems
and all parameters.
Connection Type You can download the configuration data to the S7 station via the MPI connection
or via Ethernet.
You can only use Ethernet if you have previously carried out "node initialization"
Node Initialization "Node initialization" is when you first assign a MAC or Internet address to the
Ethernet CP.
When you select Station > Print from the Hardware Configuration dialog you can
choose one of the following options for printing out configuration data:
− "All" option
Prints all the configuration data for the selected S7 station, regardless of
any other selections made.
− "Selection" option
Prints out all the configuration data for the selected component. This
enables you to print out only the configuration data for the Ethernet CP,
for example, by selecting it in the hardware configuration.
You can obtain more information on what to do from the integral Help.
You can easily obtain an overview of the network connections configured for a
SIMATIC station.
There are 2 possibilities:
Tabular Overview 1. In the SIMATIC Manager, select the station in your project you want to
check up on.
