Evidence and Commentary of Classroom Practice 4E

The meet the teacher letter that was created at the beginning of my DT was extremely
helpful with opening up a great communication with parents. The letter was created and sent
home with the students for their parents to look at them and see the information. The purpose of
the letter was to let parents know of the classroom change and to learn a little bit about their
child’s new teacher. The letter mentioned to parents to email me with any questions and that I am
willing to meet with them if they would like. This letter was helpful as I did have multiple
parents email me within the first week to ask some questions and figure out the whole thing. I
also think it was extremely helpful because when students in my classroom were missing
assignments or failed an assignment, parents would contact me to ask the questions. Then with
us having PTC this last week, it helped with parents coming into my classroom with
understanding of the situation and they were comfortable with asking questions.
One thing that I wish I would have changed would have been having a tear off section for
the parents to provide me with a signature and an email to reach them by. Even though the
school has all parents information in the system, it would have been helpful to know that parents
did see my letter by signing it and then if for some reason the system wouldn’t work then I
would still have ways to contact the parents.
