Teenage Epidemic
ABSTRACT

IN THIS MODERN ERA, UNDERAGE DRINKING IS AN EPIDEMIC AMONGST MANY


TEENAGERS. WITH INFLUENTIAL FACTORS SUCH AS SOCIAL MEDIA AND THE
ROMANTICISM OF THIS BEHAVIOR IN FILMS, THE RESPONSIBILITY AND SAFETY OF
MINORS ARE IN QUESTION. ALCOHOL IS THE MOST COMMONLY USED AND ABUSED
DRUG BY THE YOUTH. DRINKING HAS BECOME A NECESSARY INGREDIENT TO PARTIES
FOR TEENAGERS IN HIGH SCHOOL, OR EVEN YOUNGER. TEENAGE ALCOHOL
INTOXICATION NOT ONLY PUTS THE MINOR INTOXICATED IN DANGER, BUT THOSE
AROUND THEM AS WELL. THUS, WE HAVE CREATED A PREVENTATIVE MEASURE TO
REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF NEGATIVE EXPOSURE TEENAGERS EXPERIENCE TO UNDERAGE
DRINKING BY CREATING SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS ON MULTIPLE PLATFORMS. THIS
ENDEAVOR WILL BE CARRIED OUT THROUGH A TIMELINE OF TWO TO THREE DAYS, TO
CREATE, PUBLISH, AND ADVERTISE THE CONTENT WE WOULD LIKE TO PRESENT. THE
DESIRED OUTCOME OF THIS PROJECT WILL ULTIMATELY BENEFIT THE ENTIRE
COMMUNITY BY KEEPING THEIR BELOVED CHILDREN SAFE FROM IRRESPONSIBLE
ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION, AS WELL AS THE TEENAGERS THEMSELVES.

STATEMENT OF NEED

MANY TEENAGERS AND YOUNG CHILDREN HAVE CONSUMED ALCOHOL, RESULTING IN


THE ENDANGERMENT OF NOT ONLY THEMSELVES BUT THE PEOPLE AROUND THEM.
THEREFORE, OUR PROPOSAL IS NECESSARY BECAUSE WE BELIEVE THAT UNDERAGE
DRINKING SHOULD NOT BE NORMALIZED, AND WE WANT TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF
TEENAGE ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION. THE SOLUTION WE CAME UP WITH IS TARGETED AT
THE GENERAL YOUTH, AS ADOLESCENTS ARE THE FUNDAMENTAL OFFENDERS OF
UNDERAGE DRINKING. WE STRIVE TO LET THEM KNOW THAT ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION
AT THIS AGE IS NOT ONLY DANGEROUS, BUT ILLEGAL. WHILE THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN
ADDRESSED BEFORE, PEOPLE HAVE NOT TAKEN THE CORRECT STEPS TO SOLVE THE
PROBLEM. MOST ORGANIZATIONS HAVE CREATED WEBSITES WITH COMPELLING
EVIDENCE THAT VALIDATE THE SEVERITY OF TEENAGE DRINKING. ALTHOUGH THIS IS
HELPFUL WE BELIEVE THAT THEIR CONTENT IS NOT EFFICIENTLY CATERED TO THEIR
DEMOGRAPHIC, WHO ARE AVID USERS OF SOCIAL MEDIA RATHER THAN INTERNET
WEBSITES.
