The document describes a procedure for determining the drape coefficient of a fabric sample using a drape meter. The sample is placed in a drape meter clamp below a light source to form a shadow. The shadow is traced on paper and cut out, then weighed along with the areas of the sample and supporting disc. The drape coefficient is calculated using a formula that divides the difference between the sample area and draped area by the difference between the sample area and supporting disc area.

Determination of Drape coefficient of fabric by Drape meter
Aim: - Determination of Drape co efficient of fabric by Drape mete.
Material & equipment required: - Fabric sample, Drape meter and scissor. Procedure:- 1) To cut the sample according to the template. 2) Fasten the specimen in a Drape meter clamp, which is held below a light source. 3) In below of this a shadow will be formed. In a trace paper, trace it. 4) Now care has to taken while mounting it such as 2mm distance minimum must be maintained. 5) After that cut the trace paper according to pattern & weight it.
Observations:-
Test No Weight of paper Weight of paper Weight of paper
equivalent to equivalent to equivalent to specimen area draped area supporting disc area
Calculation: - To calculate the Drape coefficient by using following formula:-
Drape coefficient= As-Ad/ AD-Ad
Where AD = area of specimen, As = area of drape, Ad = area of supporting disc
Precaution:- 1) Take a sample of fabric wrinkle free. 2) Trace the drape area carefully. 3) Now care has to taken while mounting it such as 2mm distance minimum must be maintained.
