Announcing the New Caterpillar 345D Hydraulic Excavator Model

Marketing Strategy

The 300 series family of hydraulic excavators has been well received by customers
worldwide. New technologies introduced on the ‘C’ series combined with high levels of
productivity and comfort has helped to create brand preference for the 345.

The new ‘D’ series 345 delivers additional value added features that further enhances the
competitiveness of this machine. Whether your customers are productivity focused or
fuel consumption conscious the 345D will meet their differing needs with 3 power
settings selectable through the monitor.

Engine power on the D-Series has increased by 18.4% from 239kw to 283kw, which will
substantially increase machine productivity levels. Customers can still select a lower
engine power setting, through the power management capabilities, when the specific
application does not require the increased power

The power management capability allows customers to select ‘ECO’ mode for the lowest
fuel consumption operating mode, or select ‘Power’ mode if they are satisfied with the
current C-series productivity and fuel consumption levels.

Reliability improvements will further enhance Caterpillar’s reputation for building high
quality, durable products and new cab features will improve operator comfort levels.

What’s New?
Key Features & Benefits of D Series –

1. Improved Performance
• Engine maintains LRC rating but horsepower
is increased to 283kw from 239kw
• Three engine horsepower and hydraulic power
settings can be selectable through monitor
• The flat-torque curve control, which is
realized by the advanced fuel control
technology on the ADEM, helps to reduce fuel
consumption while maintaining productivity.
• Cooling performance is increased from 43
degree C to 52 degree C
• Pump flow is increased by 2%
• Electric Boom re-generation improves productivity and reduces fuel consumption
• Re-designed main control value to improve hydraulic efficiency and reliability
• Optimized fuel control map, made possible by the advanced fuel control
technology on the Advanced Diesel Engine Management (ADEM) controller,
reduces fuel consumption while maintaining productivity.
Benefit:
Increased engine power, specific power settings and an optimized flat torque curve offer
industry-leading productivity while providing significant fuel consumption savings
during less demanding applications.

2. Operator Station
• Rear view camera is available as an attachment that
improves rear visibility.
• In addition to the rear view camera, the WAVS (Working
Area Vision System) ready attachment is provided to
improve right side visibility
• New Console control lever tilt mechanism to improve
operator comfort
• HID (High Intensity gas Discharge) lights are available
as an attachment

Benefit:
Increased rear and right side visibility improves safety for the excavator operator, as well
as other machines and personnel working on the jobsite.

3. Fuel Consumption
• Fuel consumption can be displayed on the monitor
for each power mode

Benefit:
The customer can choose the power setting and fuel
consumption that best matches the application.
The operator is in full control of the machine performance
and fuel consumption.

4. Engine
• Turbocharger rotor materials changed from Aluminum alloy
to Titanium-Aluminum alloy

Benefit:
Improved compressor material provides longer turbo life and
reduces potential downtime.

5. Undercarriage

• Redesigned track links reduce stress in critical areas.

• Improved carrier roller design reduces risk of leaking
and improves reliability.
• New undercarriage cast idler is available as an attachment.
• New cast idler attachment improves durability in severe
underfoot conditions. Track Link new design
• New Positive Pin Retention 2 (PPR2) track group attachment
improves track pin retention.

Longer undercarriage life provides more uptime for
greater long-term value in the most severe applications.

6. Front Structure
• Mass Excavation sticks are specifically designed for Heavy Duty
Quarry and Mining applications.
• Heavy Duty front linkages made standard.

Benefit: Cast Idler

Power increases result in to higher front linkage stress - heavy duty components increase
the structural strength of the front linkage and ensure long-term, trouble free operation in
the toughest applications.

7. Maintenance And Serviceability Improvements

• An electric fuel-priming pump
replaces the engine-mounted manual
fuel pump and the control switch is
located in the rear left compartment
close to the air filter for easy access.

• There is now a 24V power point

positioned in the battery
compartment for powering service
lights and other electrical equipment.

Benefit:
The fuel-priming pump and the 24V
power supply are now easily accessible
from ground level and improve
serviceability.

8. Versatility
• Tool control system is pre-programmed with pressure and
flow settings for 8 Caterpillar Worktools, and 2 slots are left
available to program additional tools. The pre-programmed tools
are Hydraulic Hammers (H130S, H140DS, H160DS),
Multiprocessor (MP30), Shears (S340, S365B), Sorting Grapple
(G330) and Ditch Cleaning Tiltable Bucket (DCT bucket).

Benefit:
Worktools change is easier and programming is not required
when installing Cat Worktools on the 345DL.

• AccuGrade ARO (Attachment Ready Option) generation 2 is available as attachment.

With ARO generation 2, the AccuGrade system is

designed and integrated into the machine to create a
control system that allows operators to excavate with
higher accuracy and control than ever before. It provides
greater accuracy, higher productivity, lower operating
costs, and more profitability.

The AccuGrade ARO generation 2 integrates the

critical sensors with the machine right out of the
factory. Nearly all wiring and brackets are factory installed as part of the ARO;
therefore, installing the AccuGrade electronics kit takes a fraction of the time
required by competitive systems.

ARO machine can offer E-Ceiling and Cab Avoidance functions without any extra
components. E-Ceiling controls the highest point of the front linkage. Cab Avoidance
prevents the bucket from touching the cab.

Benefit:
ARO Generation 2 is designed and tested by the product group to perform perfectly with
the AccuGrade electronics kit. Factory installation ensures consistently high quality and
easy retrofit of the AccuGrade components.

• Product Link (PL) 321 is available from the factory (where legally allowed). PL321
helps maximize machine uptime and improves fleet management through live
machine health monitoring.
