The Royal Proclamation was issued by
King George of England in 1763.

What did the First Nations receive in the Royal

Proclamation?
The First Nations received land west of the Appalachian mountains. The Royal
Proclamation forbids any settlers from entering the First Nations land. The First
Nations get to practice their culture and live their daily lives without any
interference from the British.

This map shows the land which the

First Nations receive.
Who was angry with the Royal Proclamation?
The First Nations getting land west of the Appalachian Mountains angered
the American colonists because they could no longer move west because
those lands were reserved for the First Nations. This will eventually lead to
an uprising which sparked the American Revolution.
The American colonist probably felt
betrayed by the British because they
gave the land west of the
Appalachian Mountains to the First
Nations and not them. They also
probably felt like fighting for the
British in 7 Years War was for
nothing because of it.
Have you ever felt betrayed before?

How did the Canadians policy towards the First Nations

differ from the American policy towards the First
Nations?
The Canadian policy towards the lands of the Indigenious people is
that they must respect the terms of the Royal Proclamation and can’t
take land by force from the First Nations. The American policy towards
the lands of the Indigenous people is that they don’t need to respect
the terms of the Royal Proclamation and can take the land from the
First Nations by force if they resist giving the land to the Americains.

The British
respected the
lands of the First
Nation and the
terms of the Royal
Proclamation.
Unlike the British, the
Americans often had
wars with First Nations
over land.
How can the British obtain land from the First
Nations?
In order for the British to obtain land from the First Nations, they have
to sign treaties with them.

By signing treaties with the First

Nations the British can obtain
land from them.
