A good reason why the First Nations signed treaty 8 is because they were
promised that they would never serve in the Canadian military and pay
taxes. The First Nations in Treaty 8 probably did not want to risk their
people's lives by joining the Canadian military. All they want to do is live
on their land without violence and war. First Nations also did not want to
pay taxes because their people are suffering due to diseases and food
shortages. They probably want to make every penny count for the survival
of their people.
Going to war can cause lots
of casualties. It can even
severely decrease the
population of certain a tribe.

The First Nations who signed Treaty 8 will get annuities,
2.6 km of land (per family of 5), ammunition for guns, tools
for fishing and hunting, and cattle for the First Nations who
wanted to ranch.

receive 2.6km of land.
 Fishing and hunting tools will be
provided from the government to the
First Nations in Treaty 8.

Cattles are provided to First Nations

from the government. If you are a
rancher you will receive one extra
cattle.

How much do Chiefs and other important

Members of the Clan get paid by Signing Treaty?
Chiefs will receive about 32 dollars and would receive annuities up to
25 dollars. Headmens will receive about 22 dollars and would receive
annual payments of 15 dollars. Normal people in reserves will receive
about 12 dollars and would receive annuities up to 5 dollars.
