INTRODUCTION
1. GENERAL
This manual has been compiled in accordance with the requirements set out in ATA 100 specification. It is
prepared to give sufficient information to enable a mechanic, who is unfamiliar with the product, to restore it
to serviceable condition.
2. LAYOUT OF MANUAL
This manual has a general description and operation followed by data for maintenance, check, repair,
disassembly and assembly of the unit. This is followed by an illustrated parts list which gives detailed
information.
3. REVISIONS
This manual will be updated as required by revisions. Service Bulletins may be issued separately. Their effect
on this manual will be made evident by reissue of the appropriate list of Service Bulletins.
4. WARNINGS, CAUTIONS, NOTES
These adjuncts to the text are expressed by the following headings:

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. GENERAL
A. This manual has maintenance and repair instructions for the RECARO 4400 double aircraft passenger
seats.
B. The seat assemblies are illustrated in figure 2 and 2A.
2. DESCRIPTION
A. The seat assemblies consist of an aircraft grade aluminium frame assembly with seat pan upholstery,
leg assys, footrest assys upholstered seat back assemblies, stowable foodtray assemblies and
upholstered armrests.
B. The armrest assembly is equipped with a foodtray. The foodtray can be folded for stowage into the
armrest. The tray table is supported by movable support arm. A literature pocket is provided on the rear
of the backrest assy.
C. Each seat is provided with telephone and PCU. The aisle armrest is equipped with toggle switches for
backrest and legrest adjustment for desired position.
D. The seat assemblies are attached to the cabin floor with a track in the aft leg and a stud in the front leg.
For desired location of the seat, a quick detach feature permits forward and aft movement in the
floortracks, or complete removal.

3. OPERATION
A. Foodtray positioning
(1) In−Arm Tables (IAT) are deployed by opening the armcap, pivoting the foodtray from the module
and opening the table across the seat. To stow, reverse the above procedure.
B. Headrest
(1) An adjustable headrest is mounted on the backrest, which can be easily positioned as per
passengers comfort. Apply gentle force gently to the headrest to move it up/down as required.
Headrest should move within the limits or stop at any position when no force is applied.

TESTING AND TROUBLE SHOOTING
1. TROUBLE SHOOTING
A. GENERAL
(1) Visually check the alignment and complete movement of the components, such as
backrests,legrests and headrests in the upright (take−off) and reclined position.
Asure that the bumper, panels, lining−elements and other attaching parts in sound condition.
B. OUTER AND CENTER ARMRESTS
(1) Check visually the outer (outbd & aisle) armrests, removing the foodtray assemblies out of the
armrests. Check the foodtrays for correct alignment and adjustments required for the horizontal
position. Assure the correct movement of the foodtray “in & out” of the foodtray cavity
(2) Check the function of the armrest:
− The outer or center armrest with in−armrest table (IPL fig−4) and armrest with video and
in−armrest table (IPL fig−3) should be checked occasionally for its proper use of the
passenger. Check the IAT attachment (ref fig−3A, item 400−410), correct movement to its use
and upright/insert position. Make sure that the armcap is in a good condition and also the
hinge good functioning.
− Check visually the armrests, removing the videoarms (ref fig−3, item 110, 120) out video garage.
Check the videoarms for correct alignment and movement “in & out” of its cavity
C. BACKREST, FOOTREST AND HEADREST
(1) Visually check alignment of backrests and footrests, when the seat in standard position
(2) Check the backrests, footrests and the seatpan movement for correct recline.
D. SEAT−ELECTRIC
(1) Check the function of the video−monitor, PCU, Audio−Jack, PCP and reading light.
(2) Check all the electrical connections, prox−light, switches, control units, seat−to−seat cable,
seat−wire−harness, PC power−box and DSEB.
E. BFE AND/OR VENDOR PARTS
(1) Prior to replace or repairing refer to the manufacturer’s Manual.

2. GENERAL
A. This section contains testing and fault isolation for the Video Arm.
B. The procedures given below must be completed if a failure of the Video Arm is found during use.
C. The procedures below must be completed after repair to make sure that the unit is serviceable
before it is put into or put back into service.
D. Do all procedures in a clean area to prevent scratches or other damages of any part.
E. For numbers in parenthesis which follow item names in the procedures refer to the figures and
item numbers in ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST.
3. PROCEDURES
A. VISUAL INSPECTION
Do a visual inspection in accordance with chapter CHECK.
B. FUNCTIONAL TEST
(1) Test of the Spring Force
(a) Attach the spring scale to the monitor base assy.
(b) Measure the spring force between 0 degree and 33 degree.
(c) The spring force must be in a tolerance of 6 Nm (53.1 in.lbs) to 10 Nm (88.5 in.lbs.).

(2) Test of the Monitor Base Tilt Force
(a) Insert the Testing Gage (PNR: 1110783) in the monitor base assy.
(b) Attach the spring scale to the Testing Gage (PNR: 1110783).
(c) Measure the tilt force.
(d) The tilt force must be in a tolerance of 2.7 Nm (23.9 in.lbs.) to 4.3 Nm (38.1 in.lbs.).
(3) Test of the Monitor Base Turn Force
(a) Attach the spring scale to the monitor base assy.
(b) Measure the turn force.
(c) The turn force must be in a tolerance of 2.7 Nm (23.9 in.lbs.) to 4.3 Nm (38.1 in.lbs.).
5. ADJUSTMENT OF THE FORCES
A. Adjustment of the Tilt Force
(1) Remove the adapter plate assy (FIGURE 4A − 190), refer to DISASSEMBLY.
(2) Adjust the force with the nut (FIGURE 4A − 220).
(3) Attach the adapter plate (FIGURE 4A − 190), refer to ASSEMBLY.
B. Adjustment of the Turn Force
(1) Remove the monitor base assy (FIGURE 4A − 170), refer to DISASSEMBLY.
(2) Adjust the force with the nut (FIGURE 4A − 220).
(3) Install the monitor base assy (FIGURE 4A − 170), refer to ASSEMBLY.

DISASSEMBLY
1. GENERAL
No special tools, fixtures or equipment are required for disassembly of seat assemblies.
CAUTION: MOVING OR TRANSPORTING THE SEAT ASSEMBLIES BY SLIDING THEM ACROSS FLOOR
SURFACES WILL DAMAGE THE TRACK ATTACHING FITTINGS OR MOUNTINGSURFACES BY
THE ABRASIVE REMOVAL OF METAL FROM THESE CRITICAL AREAS.
After removal of the seat assembly from the aircraft, the use of a suitable frame to simulate the appropriate
aircraft mounting provisions is recommended to facilitate maintenance and repair.
CAUTION: DO NOT REMOVE RIVET−MOUNTED ASSEMBLIES OR COMPONENT PARTS UNLESS DAMAGE

NECESSITATES REPLACEMENT OF AN AVAILABLE PART. REPEATED REMOVAL AND
REINSTALLATION OF RIVETS WILL CAUSE FATIGUE OF THE ADJACENT MATERIAL. DAMAGE
IN THESE AREAS WILL NORMALLY REQUIRE REPLACEMENT OF THE NEXT HIGHER
ASSEMBLY. REFER TO THE ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST WHICH HAS A COMPLETE
ENUMERATION OF THE AVAILABLE PARTS.
Complete disassembly of the seat assembly is neither anticipated nor recommended. The degree of
disassembly carried out should not be more than necessary. For the identification of damage or functional
failure refer topage 501 CHECK and page 101 TESTING AND TROUBLE SHOOTING.
A. Removal of the seat assy from the aircraft (Ref. IPL, Fig 8)
(1) To remove a seat assembly from an aircraft or any simulated mounting fixture, disengage the
track−fitting (100) located on the aft leg assy. Make sure that the anti−rattle device (200) has been
sufficiently loosened for removal of fitting from the track.
(2) Move the seat assy 1/2 inch forward or aft and lift it from the mounting tracks.

C. ACCOMPLISHMENT
NOTE: All parts should be marked before disassembly in order to facilitate easier subsequent
assembly, and to avoid errors on assembly.
(1) Disassembly of the SEAT ASSEMBLY (Ref. IPL, Fig 1)
NOTE: The cushions are attached with HOOk/loop tapes
(a) Remove the upholstered seat cushions (230) and the backrest cushions (210, 250) from their
supports by releasing the tape fasteners which secure them.
(b) Remove the covers (220, 240, 250, 270) from the cushions.
(Ref. IPL, Fig 6)
(c) Remove the clip (270) to disconnect the actuator (220) and attaching parts.
(d) Remove the nuts, washers (260), and remove the actuator (220) from the actuator trunnion
bolt (240).
(Ref. IPL, Fig 2)
(e) Remove the screws (30) , washers (40) and remove the insert (20) from the backrest
strukture (10).
(Ref. IPL, Fig 4)
(f) Remove the screws (170), washers (180) and remove the foodtray assembly (10) with the
arms (60,70).

(g) Remove the backrest assembly (30, 30A) together with attaching parts kit (60).

(h) Remove the attachment kits (1010,1140) to deatch baggage rail from seatframe.

(a) Remove the screws (160) and the washers (170) and detach the armcap (70, 90).
(b) Remove the front cover (180).
(c) Remove the screw (140) and the washer (160), the pin (60) and detach the armrest from the
seat structure.

(3) Disassembly of IAT ARMREST ASSEMBLY (Ref. IPL, Fig. 4)
(a) Remove the screws (320) and the cover rear (340).
(b) Remove the screw (580).
(c) Remove the clamp (300) and detach the armrest from the structure.
(d) Remove the pin threaded (160) and remove the in−armrest table assembly.
(4) Disassembly of the IN−ARMREST TABLE ASSEMBLY (Ref. IPL, Fig. 5)
(a) Pivot the in−armrest table out of the armrest. Remove the screw (120) the slider (110), the pin
(140) and the nut (130).
(b) Remove the screw (50), washer (60) and detach the in−armrest table.
(5) Disassembly of SEATBASE INSTALLATION (Ref. IPL, Fig. 6)
NOTE: Do not disassemble the riveted or welded assemblies.Removal. and. installation of rivets
and the rivet nuts weakens the seatframe structure. Refer to NHA if replacement is
required.
(a) Remove the screws (350, 390, 400) along with the other attaching parts to remove the seatleg
from the frame.
(b) Removal of the seat divider from the seat frame is not recommended.
(c) Remove the attaching parts of seat belts (460,680), referring detail C and F)
(6) Disassembly of SEATLEG ASSEMBLY (Ref. IPL, Fig. 8)
(a) Remove the bolts (210), washers (230), nuts (220) and detach the diagonal bar (40)
(b) Remove the screw (180) with anti−rattle device (200).
(c) Remove the bolts (150), and remove the 3−stud fitting (100) along with the attaching parts
(90).
(d) Remove the aft leg (10), and detach the front leg (20) removing the screws (240).
(7). Disassembly of the VIDEO UNIT (Ref. IPL, Fig. 4A)

1. VISUAL CHECK
A. Visually inspect all hardware, piece parts, minor assemblies and sub−assemblies. A strong light and
preferably some means of magnification is necessary.
B. Visually check for missing, loose or broken parts and hardware.
2. CHECKS
A. Proper reassembly and adjustment of a seat assembly precludes any additional checks. However, prior
to disassembly or following any significant repair, perform the following visual checks, as applicable:
(1) Check seat assembly for rigidity of mounting hardware.
(2) Check completed seat assembly for missing, loose, damaged or worn parts.
(3) Check all seat functions (recline and upright) for correct action and freedom of operation.
(4) Check all upholstered areas for condition of fabric, especially noting looseness, frayed edges,
loose seams and correct alignment of VELCRO tape fastened covers.
(5) Check foodtray for security or attachment in stowed position and for correct height and tilt level in
the deployed position.
(6) Check track fitting and track studs for secure attachment to the floor track. Also check for wear or
deformation of these parts.
(7) Visual Check of the Video Arm

1. GENERAL
Follow the airline’s own standard component tolerances for scratches, cuts, dents etc.
Replace the damaged plastic and metal components. Replace the damaged or worn dress covers and
cushions. Stitch open seams on dress covers using approved thread and suitable color to match fabric.
Covers and cushions of the seat assemblies are certified to meet the requirments FAR 25.853(c).

NOTE: If the Panel Inside gets damaged, than follow the instruction of CM 25−22−27 chapter IPL figure 4 to
replace Panel Inside and Panel Outside. Otherwise continue with the next item.
G. .Remove screw RAS P/N 024902 figure 6 item 9 and Washer RAS P/N 054739 figure 6 item 10.
H. .Move table and IAT Link out of the armrest. See figure 7
I. .Remove both Set Screws RAS P/N 146−00−859−13 figure 7 and figure 8 item 120.
J. .Disassemble IAT Link Assy RAS P/N 140−00−814−16 (RH) or 140−00−814−15 (LH) in order as shown
in figure 8.
NOTE: First remove the Nut Lock RAS P/N 042754 item 80 and than remove Cup Spring item 70, Washer
item 60 and Axis item 30. After that remove the Screws RAS P/N 315−50−650−45 (NAS 602−8P)
item 90. Now all parts of the IAT Link Assy are detached.
K. .Replace the damaged Reception Table RAS P/N 140−00−814−18 (RH) or 140−00−814−17 (LH) and
install new Reception Table LH or RH without scratches.
L. .Assemble IAT Link Assy RAS P/N 140−00−814−16 (RH) or 140−00−814−15 (LH) in order as shown in
figure 8.
NOTE: First install Washer PAW 26P20 item 50 and Pressure Plate Assy item 40 to the Reception Table RH
or LH item 10 figure 8. Then install the flange item 20 with 5 screws item 90 to the Reception Table
item 10. Pay attention to the permissible torque.
M. .Install Axis item 30, Washer item 60 and Cup Spring item 70 wirh a Nut Lock RAS P/N 042754 as
shown in figure 8.
NOTE: Pay attention to the permissible torque. Refer to the table of Screw Standard Torque Values the page
before or to the table for special torque values are documented in Table 8001 in this CMM 25−22−27.
N. .Install IAT Link Assy with new Set Screws RAS P/N 146−00−859−13 item 120 to the IAT Arm as shown
in figure 7.

5. REPLACEMENT OF RECARO LOGO ON ARMREST
This section describes the replacement of the RECARO logo in case of it being lost or damaged.
The self−adhesive RECARO logo (P/N 137−00−268−04) is attached to the armrest. Please refer to
Position 290 in Figures 1 and 4 of the IPL, and to Figures 9 and 10 below.

A. REQUIRED PARTS, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS
(1) Self−adhesive RECARO logo, P/N 137−00−268−04
(2) Small scraper for removing adhesive residues
NOTE: To avoid damaging the seat’s armrest, use only a plastic scraper with rounded corners.
(3) Isopropyl alcohol
(4) Lint−free cleaning cloth for removing adhesive residues with isopropyl alcohol
(5) Rubber roller for applying pressure to the logo for increased bond strength
B. REPAIR PROCEDURE
(1) If the damaged logo is still attached to the seat, remove it carefully.
NOTE: Avoid using tools with sharp edges to prevent the armrest from becoming damaged.
(2) If the adhesive layer of the old logo remains attached to the armrest structure within the logo cutout
(Pos. 1 in Figure 10 above), carefully remove it using a small plastic scraper.
NOTE: Be cautious to avoid damaging the surrounding armrest cladding.
(3) Remove remaining adhesive residues with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol applied to a
lint−free cloth.
NOTE: Just slightly dampen the cloth to prevent isopropyl alcohol from flowing into the armrest.
NOTE: Even if there are no visible adhesive residues, degrease the surface within the logo cutout
with isopropyl alcohol prior to attaching the new logo.
(4) Remove the protective film from the adhesive layer on the rear of the new logo badge.
NOTE: Avoid touching the exposed self−adhesive surface of the logo.
(5) Precisely attach the new logo at the center of the cutout (Pos. 1 in Figure 10 above).
(6) Working from the center of the logo towards its edges, press on the logo using a rubber roller for
optimum bonding.

6. PAINTING−PROCEDURE
A. Mask off the surrounding area and lightly grind surface to be painted.
B. Rub paint from the metal parts and clean all metal surfaces with thinner alexit 62.
WARNING: CONDUCT ALL PAINTING OPERATIONS IN WELL VENTILATED AREA EQUIPPED TO

REMOVE FUMES AND DUST PARTICLES FROM THE SURROUNDING WORKING AREA.
AVOID BREATHING PAINT VAPOURS.USE RUBBER GLOVES, PVC APRON, PROTECTIVE
GOGGLES AND FILTER MASK WHEN SPRAY PAINTING.
C. Repaint each part in accordance with manufacturer instructions.

ASSEMBLY (INCLUDING STORAGE)
1. GENERAL
A. Before assembly, make sure that the CLEANING, CHECK and the REPAIR of all component parts has
been carried out.
B. After repair or replacement of any damaged or worn parts, re−assemble the seat assembly following
accepted workshop practices, noting the following detailed instructions. Use a tracking fixture to support
the seat structure.
C. Refer to the exploded−view illustrations in the Illustrated Parts List for location, sequence, quantity and
identification of assemblies, sub−assemblies and parts. These illustrations are also intended as a
guideline for the assembly procedure.
D. Whenever possible, replace low cost items during re−assembly to prevent possible future maintenance
work as a result of failure of these parts.
E. Replace the self−locking nuts and the pins before assembly.

A. Assembly of the SEATLEG ASSEMBLY (Ref. IPL, Fig. 8)
Tools:
− Track stud wrench (in accordance with Aircraft Manufacturer Instructions)
− Track stud no−go gauge (in accordance with Aircraft Manufacturer Instructions)
(1) Position the aft leg (10) and front leg (20) and secure with the attaching parts.
(2) Install the 3−stud fitting (100) with the bolt (150)
(3) Install the anti−rattle device with the screw (180) and nut (200)
(4) Attach the diagonal barm (40) with the bolts (210), washers (230) and nuts (220)
B. Assembly of the SEATBASE INSTALLATION (Ref. IPL, Fig. 6)
(1) Assemble the the attahing parts of seat belts (650,790)
(2) Position the seatleg on the frame, install screws (350,390,400), nuts (370), nut insert (410) strap
(330) and pressure divice (340).
C. Assembly of the IAT ARMREST ASSEMBLY (Ref. IPL, Fig. 4)
NOTE: Make sure to tighten the bolts/nuts/screws as per Table 8001. in Chapter ‘Fits and Clearances‘.
(1) Install the in−armrest table with the pin threaded (160).
(2) Install armrest on seat divider using the screw (580) and the clamp (300).
D. Assembly of the OUTBD/AISLE ARMREST ASSEMELY (Ref. IPL, Fig. 3)
(1) Install the armrest assembly onto the seat structure with screw (140), and washer (160)
(2) Install the armcap (70, 90) with the screws (160).
(3) Attach the front cover (180).
E. Assembly of SEAT ASSEMELY (Ref. IPL, Fig. 6)
NOTE: Make sure to tighten the bolts/nuts/screws as per Table 8001. in Chapter ‘Fits and Clearances‘.
(1). Install the baggage rail assembly (870) by using the attachment kits (1010,1140).

(8) Install the dress covers (220, 240, 260, 270, 270) onto the seat cushions and the backrest
cushions. Ensure that appearance, obtaining correct position of the covers and perfect alignment
of the edges with tape.
(9) Install seat cushions (210, 230, 250) on to the seat assembly with tape fasteners.
F. Assembly of the VIDEO UNIT (Ref. IPL, Fig. 4A)
1. GENERAL
A. This section gives instructions for the assembly of the Video Arm.
B. All screws, nuts, and washers must be replaced with new items, regardless of the condition of
the items removed.
C. For numbers in parenthesis follow the item names in the procedures refer to the figures and
item numbers in the ILLUSTRATED PARTS LIST.
