LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this piece of coursework, a student will be able to:

LO1 – Have a critical understanding of the role and nature of SCML and its relationship to the other
functions in the organization.
LO2 - Have a critical understanding of the role of SCML in competitive strategy.
LO3 - Apply tools that enable supply chain to be measured and improved.
LO4 – Have a critical understanding of basic supply chain management tools and techniques

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
This assignment aims to make students understand the factors related to SCM and Logistics
application within different organizations. The assignment is based on the analysis of the theory
underlying SCML and issues related to its adoption and application.

The analysis MUST based on:


- A literature review of recently published papers (post 2005) in academic journals.
- Practical articles recently published (post 2005) on professional magazines.
- Any relevant information that can be found in well-known web sites

Each student has to produce an essay that MUST follow the general structure given below:

➢ Abstract of 150 words maximum. The abstract needs to demonstrate briefly, but clearly,
what issue the group has analyzed as well as the main conclusions that were arrived at.
➢ Keywords that will not exceed five (5). These keywords will demonstrate a students’
ability to identify the key aspects of the issue under consideration.
➢ Table of contents
➢ Introduction, in which students will explain the purpose of the essay as well as its
structure.
➢ Main Part: This should include a compassion of ZARA, H&M, and Bennetton, by answering the
following:

• How would you class the 3 companies in terms of the markets they serve?
• How do they differ in terms of their approach to design stage of the SC?
• How do they differ in terms of the manufacturing stage of the SC?
• How do they differ in terms of the distribution stage of the SC?
• How do they differ in terms of the retail stage of the SC?
•How would you summarize the general differences between the
companies in terms of their approach to SCM?

➢ Discussion - Conclusions, in which students will develop the main points identified from
the main part as well as their critical thinking upon the issue under investigation.
➢ References, which should be properly written (APA System).
➢ Appendices (if necessary), that they will not be marked.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Students are expected to submit a proposal following the structure of the grant as
attached to this handout:

There is a word limit of 1,700 words set. Any project exceeding this limit will be penalised
10% of the grade. Students must use Times New Roman (TNR), double-spacing, 12-point
font with 1-inch page margins (2.54cm).

SUBMISSION
Students are expected to submit their work in google classroom by the time and date
specified. There will be a penalty of 10% for those reports exceeding the word limit by
more than 10%. In case the word limit has been exceeded by more than 20%, the report
will get a mark of 0.

Reports should be written using the Century Gothic font at a size of 11 and with 1.5
spacing between lines. There should be clear spacing between paragraphs, sections and
subsections. The assignment must have a Departmental cover sheet attached.

At the cover page you should identify the word length of the report.

Late submissions are subject to a 5% penalty for each day of delay. Any reports submitted
after 7 days from the submission date will get a mark of 0.

NOTE
All sentences or passages quoted in this coursework from other people's work should be
specifically acknowledged by clear cross-referencing to author, work and page(s). Failure
to do this amount to plagiarism and will be considered ground for failure in this
coursework. It is on the instructor’s discretion to contact an oral examination, which will
result to the award of the final grade to that particular piece of coursework.
