1 PROJECT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The objective of the project is to build a VOIP service in a network using IPv6 (Internet
Protocol version 6) protocol. This feature allows us to make Voice calls in the network using IPv6
(Possible future up gradation in future). We propose to implement our design using Cisco Switch
2800 Integrated Services Router/2600 Cisco switch, IP gateway phone Cisco 7960 or soft
phone .The call sessions would be managed by the using a Proxy Server Software which can be
implemented on Windows or Linux Operating systems.
This network so built would provide state-of-the art VoIP services in a network and able to
create an internal VoIP network in a company or an internal office.
This VoIP solution offers several advantages like

 Easy to implement and use, allows us to be flexible, where in new users can be added or
deleted.
 We can have our own private phones without being dependent on service providers.
 Moves, additions s and changes made easier.
 Added Security.
 It offers Low cost solution to home office and small enterprises.

3 PROJECT PLAN

3.1 Project Design

The architecture uses

 Cisco 3600 Integrated Service routers/Cisco 2800 switch family provides solutions for
data, voice video, hybrid dial access, virtual private networks and multiprotocol data routing.
The high-performance, modular architecture protects customers' investment in network
technology and integrates the functions of several devices into a single, manageable solution.

 SIP Proxy Server it is a virtual server that is installed in a system that acts a server enables
the creation of an infrastructure of network hosts (called proxy servers) to which user agents
can send registrations, invitations to sessions, and other requests. SIP is an agile, general-
purpose tool for creating, modifying, and terminating sessions that works independently of
underlying transport protocols and without dependency on the type of session that is being
established.
 IP phone it is an equipment that is used by the end user .It can be a soft phone or a
physical phone like Cisco IP phone 7960.We allocate a Unique ID to the user to make calls in
a network.

3.2 Project Structure Approach

Step by Step Approach to the Goal:

1. Network analyst has to study IPv6 and able to implement a VPN for IPv6 in packet tracer.
2. Need to test it with Cisco 3600 series router /Cisco 2600 switch.
3. Then install SIP program in Linux or windows environment
4. Configure SIP program for adding customers and setting up proxy servers for sessions to
initiate and terminate during the call.

6. ASSUMPTIONS, CONSTRAINTS & DEPENDENCIES

We have done a basic of research for the implementation of the project and have
assumed we would be able to configure VoIP on IPv6 however there are not many free software’s
that can be implemented. The Proxy server may have to be implemented on Linux which may
take us more time in understanding the software, which is critical in implementation. The
objectives of the project may/may not change during the implementation and design of the
network .Incase of any changes in the projects Objectives and Goals would be would be duly
notified to Project-Coordinator Prof. Carlo Perez .

7. Success Criteria

1. Implement IPv6 and create a network.

2. Implement Session Initiation Protocol in the network.

3. Install a Linux Operating system.

4. Install Asterisk in the OS and extract all the packages in the OS for its working.

5. Addition of new Users into the network by using proxy server.

6. A voice call setup in the network should be successful.

7. The network so created supports even networks on IPv4 network.

8. A Final report regarding the project implementation, Constraints, and solutions

for the same.

9. We would be scheduling meetings and maintaining log of Minutes of Meeting.

WBS DICTIONARY

1. Implementation of VoIP in IPv6.

2. IPv6 network
a. Understand IP Addressing in IPv6: IP addressing in IPv6 is different than IPv4 a
detailed study is required which is critical for the project.
b. Need to create a Network in IPv6: Creating a network is
3. IP phone
a. To find IP phone that can be a hard phone or a soft phone – we are using a
phone that works on SIP protocol .We can use a Cisco 7960 or X-lite a SIP based
soft phone, which would depend on the proxy server
b. To integrate the sip phone in the network.- the phone that is used should be in
the same subnet and the proxy server should support the IP phone
4. Proxy server
a. Proxy server that can be installed on Linux or Windows OS.- a detailed study of
hardware requirements should be studied upon.
b. Understand the software-learn the implementation of software with necessary
commands
c. Need to configure the server for users.-Adding new users and the network
addresses should be implemented.
5. Integrate the Server and the network- an important task would be putting in proxy server
to work practically for adding new users and using the SIP protocol on Ipv6.
