July 13: Steve McCurry, whose
work graced pages of National
Geographic, has 36 Kodachrome
slides developed at Dwayne’s
Photo Service before the compa-
ny stops developing the film at the
end of the year.

August: The Great Plains
Development Authority signs
the deed and bill of sale for the
transfer of the property from
the U.S. Army. Within the same
year, the GPDA signs a lease
contract with its first tenant,
December: The last
35 mm movie is screened
at the Parsons Theater,
marking the end of an
era.
2015
August: The Com-
munity Health Clinic of
Southeast Kansas opens
at 2100 Commerce Drive.
March: After a couple
of purchases and failed
attempts to continue the
operation of the The
Parsonian Hotel, as a
hotel and then dorms, it
was closed in 2014 and
sat vacant until it is sold
to Krsnich Investment
Group, and converted to
senior housing.
March: Parsons Country
Club, which later became Par-
sons Golf & Fitness, is sold to
a private owner and closed to
public.
Aug.: The Cardinal Villa
dorms, built amid much con-
troversy, are completed and
the grand opening occurs this
month.
2018
April 20: “Kodachrome,” a
film that centers on a journey to
Dwayne’s Photo in Parsons, de-
buts on Netflix.
Oct. 21: LCC dedicates its
new event center built in the
former Factory Connection
building. It was the last piece of
property the college had been
trying to secure to give it Main
Street frontage.

Aug. 10: First known fatality
caused by COVID-19 in Labette
County.

Oct. 24: After purchasing the

old Walmart Building at 310 Main,
the Nazarene Church holds its first
service in the new facility.

chrome enthusiasts flock to Par-
sons to have their last rolls of
Kodak’s iconic film processed at
Dwayne’s Photo Service. Dwayne’s
was the last company to process
Kodachrome film, which had been
discontinued by Kodak. Some film
trickles in after that time, including
a Chicago filmmaker who used his
last Kodachrome film on a jour-
ney from Chicago to California on
Route 66.
